THE BEST KIND OF COMEBACK
Missing his junior season of high school due to a rare blood disease called aplastic anemia, Antwan Dixon persevered and earned a scholarship to Kent State. There, he became the Flashes' leading receiver his freshman year with 355 yards on 26 passes. He also ran the ball for 162 yards. Following the season, though, his condition worsened. He returned home to Fort Myers, Fla., and received a life-saving bone marrow transplant from his father, Anthony. He has persevered once more, being released from the hospital a month early and already putting himself through agility drills. He has regained 33 of the 50 pounds he lost during surgery and plans to play for the Flashes again one day. Head coach Paul Haynes has made the decision to continue to honor his scholarship.

FLASHES IN THE SUPER BOWL
Julian Edelman's appearance for New England in Super Bowl LI this past winter made it 22 times Kent State had been represented in the National Football League's championship game, the most of any school in the Mid-American Conference. Edelman, though now one of Tom Brady's most reliable wide receivers, played quarterback for the Flashes from 2006-08. He completed 385 (sixth all-time for Kent) passes for 4,997 yards (sixth) and 30 touchdowns (fifth) in his three-year career.
IT STARTS WITH HOLLEY
Fifth-year quarterback Nick Holley is the backbone of the Kent State offense. Being named Preseason First-Team All-MAC heading into 2017, Holley is dead set on picking up right where he left off in 2016. Last season, he led the Flashes with 12 touchdowns, ten of which were on the ground. He ran for 920 yards and threw for 868. He caught seven passes for two touchdowns and even returned a punt for 26 yards.
FRUSTRATED WITH THE FALCONS
Flashes head coach Paul Haynes has found anything but success against the Falcons in recent years. Since taking over the team in 2013, Haynes has gone 0-4 while being outscored 161-49. They have only scored seven points to Bowling Green's 90 in the past two years. Even before Haynes the Flashes struggled with BG. They own a dismal 19-59 record against their MAC East competitors.
A FALL FROM GRACE
The 2012 season saw the Flashes finish 11-3, a perfect conference record, and trips to the MAC Championship and the GoDaddy.com Bowl. It has been tough going since then. They will enter 2017 with a 12-35 record in the last four seasons. This includes a 6-17 mark in the MAC.
