BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Last Friday (May 19), BGSUFalcons.com continued its Men's Basketball Future Falcon Friday series. Over the past five weeks, BGSUFalcons.com has been taking a closer look at each of the five men's basketball signees. The Future Falcon Friday series, which will conclude today, delved into each of the five future Falcons. All five signees will be freshmen on the 2017-18 team.
In the last edition of the series, Future Falcon Friday will focus on Daeqwon Plowden. Plowden is an athletic wing/forward, and stands at 6-foot-5 with a 6-foot-9 wingspan. The soon-to-be Falcon hails from Philadelphia, and attended Mastery Charter North School.
Plowden is ranked in the Top 100 at his position for the class of 2017, on top of being ranked the 20th-best player in Pennsylvania – both according to ESPN.com. A highly-recruited player, Plowden drew interest from several Atlantic 10 and American Athletic conference institutions, and overall, held over 10 offers.

"Daeqwon was our first commit for the 2017 class, and is someone we think very highly of. There is no question that he will be one of the best athletes on our roster, and in the MAC," said head coach Michael Huger. "He is a young man that has only played basketball for five years, and he's developed at a rapid pace. He held offers from close to 15 different schools, including offers from the Atlantic 10 and American Athletic conferences. My staff and I believe this is a young man who has only begun to scratch the surface of his potential. Daeqwon has a high-level defensive upside, and the ability to score from the perimeter, in transition and attacking the basket. His versatility will make him a unique and valuable part of our roster."
This past season, Plowden garnered Second Team All-State honors, and was named the Public League Liberty Division's Most Valuable Player. Plowden, who finished his high school career with well over 1,100 points, is his high school's all-time leading scorer. He became the first men's player at Mastery Charter North to score over 1,000-career points.
After averaging 15.7 points as a junior, the native of Philadelphia averaged 16.0 points across his senior year. Plowden has been the captain of his team since 2015, and during the 2015-16 season, he led the Pumas to a 24-7 record and a trip to the PIAA Class 2A State Championship Game, where he registered 24 points and 11 rebounds. Plowden continued his historic stat-stuffing ways during his senior season, as well.

"My favorite thing about Daeqwon is he is a fierce competitor and always finds a way to impact the game," continued Huger. "From the start of the game to the very last seconds, he gives 100 percent. No matter how well he plays, he is always itching for more. Our fans will certainly enjoy some highlight-reel hustle plays that he will bring to the floor as a Falcon. Like the rest of our incoming class, Daeqwon is an excellent student and will represent our program positively on and off the court. We are excited to get Daeqwon here and begin working with him."
