NOTE OF THE DAY -- THANKS, SENIORS
>> Saturday, as mentioned, will be Senior Day at the Stroh, with the two seniors in the Falcon program recognized in ceremonies prior to tipoff. That quartet includes Leah Bolton, Rachel Konieczki, Abby Siefker and Ashley Tunstall. The Senior Day festivities are scheduled to begin at approximately 11:45 a.m.
>> The Falcons have won 14 of the 15 Senior Day/Night games since Jennifer Roos came to Northwest Ohio, and BG is 19-2 in the last 21 such contests.
THE FALCONS AND THE MAC TOURNAMENT
>> Entering the final day of the regular season, the Falcons are tied with Miami for fourth in the MAC's East Division. If the MAC Tournament began today, BGSU would be the ninth seed.
>> A BGSU win over Miami would make the Falcons the ninth seed for the league tourney, and would sent BG to Kalamazoo for a first-round game vs. Western Michigan. The Broncos will finish as the eighth seed regardless of Saturday's outcomes.
>> If Miami wins Saturday's game, the Falcons would be the 10th seed for the league tourney, and would play at either Buffalo or Ohio. Most scenarios would send BG to UB for Monday's first round, but if Ohio and Buffalo tied for sixth overall (i.e., if Toledo beats Ball State, Akron beats Ohio, and Buffalo beats Kent State on Saturday), the Bulls would win the tiebreaker and the Bobcats would be the seventh seed. That – and only that – scenario would send the Falcons to Athens for a Monday matchup. Here are the current MAC standings and the lone remaining MAC game for each team ...

A TRADITION OF SUCCESS
>> Bowling Green has won 14 MAC regular-season championships and 11 league tournament titles, the highest totals among all conference teams. Prior to the injury-plagued season of 2014-15, the Falcons had won at least 20 games in a MAC-record 11 consecutive seasons. BG won at least 24 games in nine-straight seasons during that span, losing just 18 total games in MAC regular-season play during those nine years.
>> The Falcons made 10 consecutive national postseason trips from 2005-14, with five NCAA Championships appearances and five trips to the WNIT during that time. The 2006-07 team was the most successful in MAC history, winning a league-record 31 games en route to an NCAA 'Sweet Sixteen' appearance.
>> Overall, BGSU has won 20 or more games 19 times, the highest total among all Mid-American Conference women's basketball-playing institutions.
THE FALCONS
>> The Falcons are 8-21 overall, and BGSU is 4-13 in MAC play entering Saturday's Miami game. The Falcons are tied for fourth (with the RedHawks) in the East Division, and if the regular season ended today, BG would be the ninth seed for the 12-team conference tournament.
>> The Falcons went 3-4 in the month of February, and the Brown and Orange won two of the last three games, with both wins coming on the road. BG downed Miami, 61-59, in Oxford (Feb. 18), and after falling by a 70-60 score to Kent State at the Stroh Center (Feb. 22), the Falcons bounced back with a 64-62 win at Buffalo on Saturday (Feb. 25). BG began March with a 79-68 setback at Ohio Wednesday night (March 1).
Â
>> Sophomore Carly Santoro leads the team in scoring, with 12.4 points per game. Santoro is second on the team in rebounding, with 7.3 boards per contest, and has four 20-point games, including a BG season-high 32 points in the first KSU kerfuffle. She also leads the club with 19 double-digit scoring games and five double-doubles this year to date. Santoro has hit 43 three-pointers to rank second on the club.
>> Fellow sophomore Sydney Lambert has 10.4 ppg to rank second on the team. The point guard leads the Falcons in assists (2.2 apg), steals (1.0 spg) and three-pointers made (69). Lambert has started all 57 of BGSU's games since her arrival on campus, and has averaged 18.5 ppg over the last two contests.
>> Senior Abby Siefker has 6.9 ppg and 7.4 rpg, leading the team in boards and ranking third in points. Siefker paces the team in blocked shots (0.8 bpg), and the center is second on the Falcons in assists (1.9 apg). She has scored in double digits seven times this season, and has led the Brown and Orange in assists on 13 occasions.
>> Senior Ashley Tunstall and junior Haley Puk are averaging 6.7 and 6.4 ppg, respectively, while freshman Andrea Cecil has 4.9 ppg, classmate Caterrion Thompson 4.6 and junior Rachel Myers 4.2. Puk is third on the team in three-pointers made (32), while Tunstall is third with 5.7 rpg. Tunstall is third on the team with eight double-digit scoring games, while Siefker (as we mentioned in the last paragraph) has seven and Puk six.
SCOUTING MIAMI
>> Miami is 10-20 on the season, and the Redhawks are tied with BGSU for fourth in the East Division with a 4-13 MAC record. MU is looking to snap a two-game losing streak, including a 78-51 home setback to Kent State on Wednesday night. The 'Hawks are 4-10 at home, 4-8 on the road and 2-2 at neutral sites this year. In MAC play, MU went 2-7 at home, and the RedHawks are 2-6 on the road. Freshman Lauren Dickerson leads the team in scoring, with 15.4 points per game, and she also paces the RedHawks in minutes played (30.4), assists (3.7) and steals (1.9) per game. Kendall McCoy and Leah Purvis each have 7.8 ppg this season. Head coach Cleve Wright welcomed back nine letterwinners, including four starters, from a RedHawk team that went 9-21 overall and 3-15 in the MAC a year ago.
THE SERIES
>> The Falcons lead Miami, 51-28, in the all-time series between the teams, and BG has won three-straight meetings. The Brown and Orange won a 61-59 thriller in Oxford two weeks ago (Feb. 18, 2017), and BG captured both of last year's meetings, including a 76-56 victory at the Stroh Center (Feb. 27, 2016). BG is 24-12 in home games (4-1 in the Stroh), 21-15 in road contests and 6-1 in neutral-site games vs. the Redskins/RedHawks over the years. Jennifer Roos is 6-3 against Miami as a collegiate head coach.
UP NEXT
>> Following the Miami meet-up, the Falcons will hit the road to begin MAC Tournament play. BGSU will face an opponent to be determined – either Western Michigan, Buffalo or Ohio – in league tourney first-round action on Monday (March 6). The first-round winners will advance to Cleveland for Wednesday's (March 8) quarterfinals at Quicken Loans Arena.
