NOTE OF THE DAY
In the last meeting with CMU, BGSU tied an NCAA record. Last Feb. 6 in Mount Pleasant, the Falcons made 11 consecutive three-point attempts, matching the NCAA Division-I mark set by TCU vs. Lamar in March of 1996. BGSU missed the final three-point attempt of the first quarter, then made all six long-distance tries in the second quarter before going 5-for-5 from beyond the arc to begin the third period.
A TRADITION OF SUCCESS
Bowling Green has won 14 MAC regular-season championships and 11 league tournament titles, the highest totals among all conference teams. Prior to the injury-plagued season of 2014-15, the Falcons had won at least 20 games in a MAC-record 11 consecutive seasons. BG won at least 24 games in nine-straight seasons during that span, losing just 18 total games in MAC regular-season play during those nine years.
The Falcons made 10 consecutive national postseason trips from 2005-14, with five NCAA Championships appearances and five trips to the WNIT during that time. The 2006-07 team was the most successful in MAC history, winning a league-record 31 games en route to an NCAA 'Sweet Sixteen' appearance.
Overall, BGSU has won 20 or more games 19 times, the highest total among all Mid-American Conference women's basketball-playing institutions.
SCOUTING THE CHIPPEWAS
Central Michigan enters Saturday's game with an overall record of 12-4, and the Chippewas are a perfect 4-0 in the MAC after a 101-92 win over Ball State Wednesday night. CMU has scored at least 88 points in each of this season's four conference games to date. Presley Hudson is averaging 19.2 points per game, while three of her teammates are scoring 13 or more points per contest. In the Chippewas' four MAC games this year, Hudson is averaging an otherworldly 33.8 ppg, and is shooting nearly 60 percent (23-of-39) from three-point range. She had a school-record 43 points in the BSU game. Cassie Breen and Tinara Moore have 13.8 and 13.4 ppg this season, while Jewel Cotton is scoring 13.0 ppg per contest. Hudson has made 52 total three-point field goals on the year, while Breen has hit 49. Reyna Frost has 7.4 ppg and a team-leading 11.0 rebounds per game. The Chippewas are 9-1 at home, 1-3 on the road and 2-0 in neutral-site games so far this season. Head coach Sue Guevara welcomed back nine letterwinners, including four starters, from a Chippewa team that went 22-11 overall and 14-4 in the MAC a year ago. CMU won the West Division and advanced to the league tournament's championship game last March.
THE SERIES
The Falcons lead Central Michigan, 47-18, in the all-time series between the teams, but the Chippewas have captured the last two meetings by a combined four points. Last season, Presley Hudson hit a layup at the buzzer as host CMU pulled out a 76-75 win in Mount Pleasant (Feb. 6, 2016). In that game, BGSU tied the school record by making 16 three-point field goals, and Rachel Myers had seven of those triples en route to 24 points. Two years ago, in the teams' last meeting in Bowling Green, the Chippewas – the preseason MAC favorite – escaped the Stroh Center with a 57-54 win (Feb. 4, 2015). BGSU's last win over Central came on Feb. 19, 2014, a 67-55 victory in a battle of MAC divisional leaders at the Stroh. BGSU is 25-5 in home games (2-1 at the Stroh Center), 18-9 on the road and 4-4 in neutral-site contests vs. the Chippewas over the years. Jennifer Roos is 2-4 against the Chippewas as a collegiate head coach. She also served as interim head coach of the Falcons for a win at CMU in the 2011-12 season.
UP NEXT
Following the CMU game, the Falcons will continue a three-game homestand with a Wednesday (Jan. 18) matchup vs. defending MAC Tournament champion Buffalo. That game will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Stroh. Then, next Saturday (Jan. 21), both the BGSU men's and women's teams will host Ball State, with the women's game kicking off the twinbill at 12:00 p.m.
