A TRADITION OF SUCCESS
Bowling Green has won 14 MAC regular-season championships and 11 league tournament titles, the highest totals among all conference teams. Prior to the injury-plagued season of 2014-15, the Falcons had won at least 20 games in a MAC-record 11 consecutive seasons. BG won at least 24 games in nine-straight seasons during that span, losing just 18 total games in MAC regular-season play during those nine years.
The Falcons made 10 consecutive national postseason trips from 2005-14, with five NCAA Championships appearances and five trips to the WNIT during that time. The 2006-07 team was the most successful in MAC history, winning a league-record 31 games en route to an NCAA 'Sweet Sixteen' appearance.
Overall, BGSU has won 20 or more games 19 times, the highest total among all Mid-American Conference women's basketball-playing institutions.
SCOUTING SDSU
South Dakota State enters Sunday's game with a record of 8-3. The Jackrabbits are 4-1 at home, 3-2 on the road and 1-0 in neutral-site games this season to date. SDSU received votes in at least one national poll in each of the first four weeks of the season. Two of the team's losses have come on the road to nationally-ranked teams, Oklahoma and Louisville, while the other setback came against another mid-major power in Green Bay. Last week, the Jacks downed George Washington, 60-55, at home, before falling at Louisville by an 83-30 outcome. Macy Miller has 14.9 points per game this year, but she was injured late in the first half of the Green Bay game (Dec. 9) and will miss the remainder of the season. Madison Guebert has 12.6 ppg and has hit a team-leading 32 three-point field goals, while Kerri Young and Ellie Thompson have 10.5 and 10.0 ppg, respectively. Young paces the Jacks with 2.9 assists per outing. Clarissa Ober has 9.5 ppg and a team-high 8.0 rebounds per game. Head coach Aaron Johnston welcomed back 10 letterwinners, including all five starters, from last season's team that went 27-7 overall and 13-3 in Summit League play. The 2015-16 SDSU club advanced to second round of the NCAA Championships.
THE SERIES
South Dakota State leads BGSU, 1-0, in the all-time series between the teams. The Jacks came to the Stroh Center and picked up a 58-45 win just under a year ago (Dec. 21, 2015). SDSU led by one point at the half before beginning the third quarter on a 12-0 run.
UP NEXT
Following the SDSU game, the Falcons will return to the road to meet Cleveland State on Wednesday night (Dec. 21), with tipoff set for 7:00 p.m. at the Stroh Center. Children 12 and under will be admitted free, and Santa Claus will make time in his busy December schedule to stop by the Stroh as well on Wednesday evening. Then, BG's four-game home swing will continue with games vs. Malone (Dec. 28), Ohio (Mid-American Conference opener on Dec. 31) and Northern Illinois (Jan. 4).
