FALCONS VS. THE MAC
The Falcons own the best record in MAC history. Entering the BSU game, BGSU has an all-time record of 405-211 (.657) in MAC regular-season games, for the most wins and highest winning percentage of all league institutions.
And, BG leads the series with all 11 MAC foes, making the Falcons the only team in the league with a winning series record against every other school. BG also has the most overall victories and highest overall winning pct. of any league institution.
FALCONS IN THE NCAA RANKINGS
The Falcons are among the nation's leaders in numerous categories. As a team, BGSU is fifth in the country in three-point field goals made per game (10.8), and BG is 18th in total three-pointers made, 30th in treys attempted and 32nd in three-point percentage. Additionally, the Falcons are 10th in the entire nation in defensive rebounds per game.
Individually, freshman Morgan McMillen is eighth in the entire country in three-pointers made per game, with 3.75. McMillen is 11th in the nation in free-throw percentage and 17th nationally in total three-pointers made.
Sophomore Angela Perry leads the MAC and is 14th in the nation in field-goal percentage, having shot 61.3 percent from the floor. Junior Andrea Cecil is 30th in the nation in three-point percentage, and senior Sydney Lambert is 22nd in the land in minutes played per game.
FROM WAAAAAAAY DOWNTOWN .... BANG!
As we just mentioned, freshman Morgan McMillen is ranked eighth in the country – and second among all freshmen – in three-pointers made per game.
McMillen has hit 45 triples through her first 12 collegiate contests, an average of 3.75 long-distance makes per game. She has made at least three triples in 10 of the 12 games, including four contests with five or more successful treys.
LAMBERT'S LEGACY: SYD JOINS 1,000-POINT CLUB
Senior Sydney Lambert scored a game-high 18 points in the Falcons' win over Davis & Elkins on Dec. 30. Her final two points of that game came on a foul-line jumper with 8:06 remaining in the fourth quarter, and put her over the 1,000-point mark for her career.
Lambert became the 28th player in school history to reach the milestone. She scored her 1,000th career point in her 100th career game at BG. Lambert enters the BSU game with a career total of 1,023 points. She has averaged at least 9.4 points per game in every season at BG, and is averaging 12.0 ppg this season and 10.1 ppg in her career.Â
With a game-high 22 points in the Western Michigan game on Sunday (Jan. 5), Lambert has moved within four points of 25th place on the BGSU career scoring list. Her next targets on that list are Cary McGehee (1980-84) and Miriam Justinger (2012-16), each of whom scored 1,027 points in a BG uniform.
LAMBERT'S LEGACY II: START ME UP
Senior Sydney Lambert has started every game since coming to BG, and has made 101 career starts entering the Ball State game. If she is in the lineup on Wednesday morning, she would move into sole possession of 10th place on the school's career list for games started.
BG has at least 18 games left on the 2018-19 schedule, meaning Lambert has a realistic chance to finish her career as high as fifth in school history in games started. BGSU Hall-of-Famers Kate Achter (124 from 2004-08) and Jackie Motycka (115 from 1985-89) rank fourth and fifth, respectively, on the BG list for career starts.
LAMBERT'S LEGACY III: SYD-THREE LAMBERT
Senior Sydney Lambert's first successful three-point field goal in the Falcons' win at Canisius (Dec. 8) was the 200th of her BGSU career. She became just the fourth Falcon to make 200 career three-pointers, and she now has 213 long-range makes. Lambert is just three triples away from tying Liz Honegger (216 three-pointers from 2003-07) for third place.
Lambert is averaging just over two treys per game in her career, and if she keeps up that pace, she will move past not only Honegger, but also Tracy Pontius (235 from 2007-11), to finish her career in second place on the BGSU list.
THE FALCONS: A QUICK OVERVIEW
BGSU enters the Ball State game with a record of 7-5, and the Falcons are 0-1 in MAC play. BG saw a four-game winning streak snapped with a narrow 84-82 loss to Western Michigan at the Stroh Center on Sunday (Jan. 5).
BGSU was a perfect 4-0 in the month of December, as the Falcons picked up a 74-53 win at Canisius (Dec. 8), then topped Detroit Mercy, 79-73, at home (Dec. 17) and Valparaiso, 79-72, on the road (Dec. 21). The Brown and Orange topped Davis & Elkins by a 63-28 score to wrap up non-conference play (Dec. 30).
BG fell at Michigan State in the season opener, but the Falcons then won three-straight games, topping Marshall, Robert Morris and Loyola Chicago, 88-74, at the Stroh Center. The Falcons dropped the next three games before putting together the aforementioned four-game win streak.
The Falcons are 5-1 at home, 2-3 on the road and 0-1 in neutral-site contests.
Head coach Robyn Fralick is in her first season on the BGSU bench. Her staff includes associate head coach Kim Cameron, assistant coach/recruiting coordinator Karmen Graham, assistant coach Joel Whymer, director of operations Monique Rosati and video coordinator Amanda Cutcher.
Roughly 40% through the schedule, four players are scoring in double digits. Freshman Morgan McMillen has 17.1 points per game, and has scored in double digits in 11 of her first 12 career contests. McMillen tied the school single-game record with eight triples vs. Marshall (in her second collegiate game), and she is shooting 38.8% from the arc, having gone 45-for-116 from long range.
Junior Andrea Cecil has 15.3 ppg to date, and has scored 72 points in the last four games, including a career-high 30 vs. UDM. Cecil is also second on the Falcons in rebounding, with 5.0 boards per game. She has had 19 or more points six times this season, and is shooting 44.6% from three-point land.
Sophomore Angela Perry has 12.7 points per game and is shooting 61.3% from the floor, good for 14th in the nation. Perry, who has seen action in nine games, has already topped her point total for all of last season.
Senior Sydney Lambert is averaging 12.0 ppg and leads the team with 4.7 assists. She has hit 26 treys, good for third on the team, and also has 4.3 boards per outing.
Freshman Kadie Hempfling and sophomore Madisen Parker have 5.9 and 5.8 ppg, respectively. Hempfling has a BG-best 9.4 rebounds per game, and she is also averaging 4.6 assists per game to rank second on the Falcons in that category (55 total assists to Lambert's 56). She has had seven double-digit rebounding totals in her first 12 games. Parker has gone 18-of-46 (39.1%) from three-point range this year, including a perfect 3-for-3 in each of two Falcon wins.
BGSU returned a total of 10 letterwinners, including three starters, from last year's team that finished with an 11-19 overall record and a 3-15 mark in MAC play.
EYASSES (IT'S THE PLURAL OF EYAS) (LOOK IT UP)
A total of seven players have seen action in all 12 games this season to date. That group includes one senior, one junior, two sophomores (including one redshirt soph) and three freshmen.
Three additional Falcons have seen action in at least seven games. That trio consists of one junior, one soph and the remaining freshman.
MORE THREE-POINT NOTES? MORE THREE-POINT NOTES.
Through the years, BGSU rosters typically have been stocked with players who can score from three-point range. Last year, for the third-straight season, a total of 12 different Falcons hit at least one three-pointer.
Three years ago, the Falcons made at least four three-point field goals in all 28 contests. Two seasons ago, BGSU connected at least four times in 27 of the 31 games. Last year, the Falcons made four or more treys in 27 of the 30 games.Â
And, this season, BG has hit at least five triples in every game, and the Falcons have made at least eight treys in nine contests, including a school record-tying 16 vs. Marshall, 14 vs. Valpo and 13 on three other occasions.
In fact, BG has knocked down four or more three-pointers in 126 of the last 134 games, dating to late in the 2013-14 season.
BGSU will be looking to extend a mucho-impressive streak in the Ball State game. The Falcons have hit at least one three-pointer in each of the last 442 games. BG has not been held without a triple in close to 14 years – since Feb. 12, 2005, at Akron, when the Falcons won, 61-52, despite going 0-of-13 from long distance.
KADIE CAN DO
Freshman Kadie Hempfling has taken just over five shots per game this year, but still is averaging nearly six points per contest. And, she has helped the Falcons in a veritable plethora of ways in addition to scoring.
Hempfling leads the Falcons in rebounding, with 9.4 boards per game. Hempfling has pulled down 10 or more rebounds in seven of her first 12 games as a Falcon.
The Ottawa, Ohio, native also leads the team in steals, and is second on the Falcons in assists. Over the last two games, she has averaged 10.0 boards, 6.5 helpers and 5.0 steals per contest.
A QUICK LOOK AT BSU
Ball State is 5-8 on the season, and the Cardinals are 0-1 in MAC play after a 65-58 loss at Toledo on Saturday (Jan. 5). That setback snapped a three-game winning streak, a streak in which the Cards averaged 91.7 points per game. BSU is 4-2 at home, 1-3 on the road and 0-3 at neutral sites. Oshlynn Brown leads the team with 13.1 points per game, and she also has a team-high 8.5 rebounds per outing. Jasmin Samz averages 10.5 points and a team-leading 3.3 assists per game for head coach Brady Sallee. Sallee welcomed back six letterwinners, including two starters, from last year's team that finished 25-7 overall and 13-5 in MAC play.
THE SERIES
The Falcons lead Ball State, 44-22, in the all-time series between the teams, but the Cardinals have won the last eight meetings. Last season, BSU came to BG and picked up an 84-73 win (Jan. 6, 2018), then drubbed the Falcons by an 82-41 final just 18 days later in Muncie. Prior to BSU's current eight-game streak, the Falcons had won five-straight games vs. the Cardinals. BG's last victory over BSU was a 72-61 decision on the road in January of 2014. BGSU is 24-6 in home games, 18-13 on the road and 2-3 in neutral-site meetings with the Cardinals over the years.
DOWN THE ROAD
Following the BSU game, the Falcons will return to the road for a Saturday (Jan. 12) contest at Akron. That game is set for a 2:00 p.m. start at Rhodes Arena.
