Cross Country Opens Season at Toledo Invitational

The men's and women's squads both finished third out of three in the race.
Results
Oregon, Ohio – Junior Becca Rae led the women's cross country team and redshirt freshman Nathan Kuck finished first for the BGSU men's squad at the Toledo Invite season opener Friday night.
The men and women each ran a 5,000-meter race to open up the 2014 season against the University of Toledo and Eastern Michigan.
Rae placed fourth overall, crossing the finish line in a personal best 17:56.1. Running unattached in her first collegiate meet, freshman Rachel Walny also finished under the 18-minute mark (17:57). With redshirt sophomore Mackenzie McMillin and sophomore Brent Darah both recording personal best times in the 5k distance, the Falcons finished four runners under 18:26. McMillin and Darah were the second and third fastest sophomores in the race, respectively.
On the men's side, the Falcons sent three true freshmen and three redshirt freshmen to the line for the first time in their collegiate careers. Kuck placed seventh overall with a personal best time of 16:07.1 and was the third freshman in the race to cross the finish. Behind Kuck were Kohl Taberner, 13th place, and Nick Voth in 14th.
BGSU will host its lone home meet of the season, the annual Mel Brodt Collegiate Invitational, on Sept. 12.
