Marcus White
- Title:
- Assistant Coach (Running Backs)
- Email:
Marcus White begins his third season as the defensive line coach at Bowling Green in 2018. White previously coached at Faulkner University in 2015 and worked with Head Coach Mike Jinks at Texas Tech as an off-the-field staff member for two seasons.
Â
In 2017, White was faced with replacing half of his starting lineup along the defensive line. Despite that fact, the unit held Michigan State featured back LJ Scott to just 39 yards on 15 carries in the season opener. The young line also worked to create pressure on opposing quarterbacks throughout the season, posting multiple sacks in 9-of-12 games, including 4.0 against both South Dakota and Toledo.
Â
In his first season as the defensive line coach at BGSU, White’s unit helped to create havoc as the season wore on. BG’s rush defense ranked fourth in the MAC, allowing just 170.9 yards in eight conference contests. The Falcons also put pressure on the opposing quarterback, racking up 18 sacks in eight league games, third-most in the MAC.
White, a former player at Auburn and Murray State, joined the Faulkner staff as the defensive line coach prior to the 2015 season. In 2015, Faulkner went 7-3 and won their final four games of the season. The Eagles totaled 103.0 tackles for loss and 48.0 sacks. Freshman Qunn Johnson was named Mid-South Conference's West Division defensive Freshman of the Year, registering 45 tackles, 8.5 TFL, and 5.5 sacks. Additionally, defensive lineman Tony Threatt was named first team All-MSC after totaling 51 tackles, 11.5 TFL and 8.5 sacks. Johnson was named second team All-MSC.
Â
Having originally signed with Auburn, White transferred prior to the 2003 season to Murray State, where he was an All-Ohio Valley Conference selection for three years. White was a member of the NFL's Tennessee Titans from 2005-2007 before concluding his professional career in the Arena Football League.
A graduate of Murray State, White was an offensive analyst at Texas Tech prior to his time at Faulkner. He served as an offensive quality control assistant at Houston in 2012, Tarleton State's offensive line coach in 2011 and worked another year at Houston in 2010 as an offensive graduate assistant. A Theodore, Ala., product, he was an assistant at St. Paul's Episcopal in Mobile, Ala., in 2009 and the defensive line coach at Jackson Olin High in Birmingham, Ala., in 2008.
White and his wife, Jaunelle, have three daughters - MaKiah, Jailyn, and Layla.
