The 2006 season marks Scott Sehmann's seventh year at the helm of the BGSU women's track and field team as well as his 16th year among the BGSU coaching ranks. Sehmann began his coaching career in 1986 as the head football coach at Woonsocket High School in Woonsocket, South Dakota. In 1987 he became the graduate assistant track and field coach at The University of South Dakota. He then became the assistant men's and women's track and field coach at the University of Wyoming for two seasons before coming to BG. In 1990, Sehmann came to Bowling Green to assume the role of assistant men's and women's track and field coach, a position he held for nearly 10 years. He was named head women's track and field coach in 1999. As a member of the Falcon coaching staff under the direction of former head coaches Steve Price and Sid Sink, Sehmann has made significant contributions to five Mid-American Conference championships teams in the 1990's and six teams that finished in the top three at the MAC meet. Since his arrival at BG, Sehmann has recruited and or coached six Falcon athletes to 10 NCAA Division I All-American honors. At the conference level, Sehmann has directed athletes to 26 individual MAC titles in his 16-year stint. Probably the most notable achievement of his tenure are the 39 school records that have been tallied by athletes under his direction. "I have been fortunate to be a part of the development and growth of numerous athletes who possessed the desire to strive for success and be the best they could possibly be as a competitor representing BGSU. Year in and year out our athletes desire to improve and post marks reflecting their hard work. It's been an honor to be a part of their lives." Coach Sehmann resides in Bowling Green with his wife Mary and their two daughters, Marissa (11) and Emmy (8). Mary serves as the coordinator of the Wood County Special Olympics program. She was an All-WAC performer at the Universityof Wyoming and the 1990 WAC 800 meter champion. Scott is a native of Davenport, Iowa and holds a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and a M.S. degree in Physical Education from the University of South Dakota. |
