BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA - On Saturday Bowling Green State University gymnasts Jacque Bernhardt and Breanne Guy competed in the NCAA Regionals in Baton Rouge, La. Both gymnasts represented their school proudly as Bernhardt finished tied for 25th with a score of 9.775. The winner of the vault was LSU's Ashleigh Clare-Kearney who scored a perfect 10.0. Guy competed in the all-around and claimed the 16th spot with a 38.175.

Head coach Kerrie Beach was really proud of her gymnasts' performances. "Jacque did one of her best vaults of the year. I was really happy that she got to finish her career on a great note and walk away knowing that she left it all out there. The scoring was tight especially for the individuals, so much that it does not fully reflect their performances."

This is the first year that BGSU has sent more then one gymnast to Regionals, and the first that they had one gymnast competing in something other then the all-around.

Beam has been Guy's Achilles tendon all season and Regionals was no different as she posted a 9.075 placing her in 41st. She did however, bounce back and finish strong on floor by scoring a 9.650 landing her in 35th.

"It was a really exciting meet for everyone to be at" Beach said. "Bre was a little nervous and had a fall on beam but recovered really well. She had a little rough landing on bars but still had a very nice routine. I was really proud she got out there and kept her composure and represented us well."

Guy finished above her teammate on vault by placing tied for 21st with a 9.825. Bars brought around a 9.625 score and a 36th place finish.

With Regionals over the Falcons officially end their 2007-08 season. They will lose Bernhardt along with three other gymnasts, Ashlee deLeeuw, Marissa Saneholtz and Candice Deacon. They will however, return nine letter winners and 16 total gymnasts.

"It was good for our athletes to see that level of gymnastics and know that as a team they can be there next year" Beach said.

At this year's end of the season banquet the coaching staff handed out three special awards. The first was Most Improved Gymnast which was awarded to sophomore Queenita Gamble for her solid performance this year on vault beam and floor. The award of Coach's Award went to senior Jholeen Ponce who will return for her final year of gymnastics next season. The final award was the MVP Award which without a doubt went to sophomore Breanne Guy.
