Men's Basketball Falcons Hold Strongman Competition

Aug. 8, 2008

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Technically, basketball season is still a few months away. But, in reality, there is no such thing as an 'off-season' any more.

The Bowling Green State University men's basketball student-athletes are working out in preparation for the 2008-09 season, and recently participated in a 'strongman' competition. Under the supervision of Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning Rick Court, members of the Falcons convened early in the morning, and participated in a series of grueling exercises that tested their fitness in multiple areas.

In the Sebo Athletic Center weight room, the student-athletes performed numerous repetitions of bench presses, squats and pull-ups. On the Doyt Perry Stadium FieldTurf, the Falcons pushed sleds, tossed giant tractor wheels and carried 120-pound weights up and down the field.

The winning team consisted of Joe Jakubowski, Chris Knight, Marc Larson, Cameron Madlock, Brian Moten and Alvin Freeman. Obviously, though, the `strongman' competition benefitted the entire team, as the Falcons prepare for the upcoming season.

"The guys have been very determined this summer to better themselves physically," said Court. "They have trained with a chip on their shoulder."
