Sixth Inning Surges Not Enough For Falcons In Doubleheader Action

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1
- After a scoreless first inning, the Falcons started the scoring in the top of the second. Tyler Haas laced a one-out double down the left field line before Nathan Archer belted a two-run blast to put the Falcons up 2-0.
- Ball State answered in the bottom half of the inning. A bases loaded single tallied the first run for the Cardinals before a triple cleared the bases later followed by an RBI single to make it 5-2 Ball State.
- Later in the inning the Cardinals were able to register a grand slam to stretch the score to 9-2 BSU.
- Ball State added to their lead in the bottom of the third. A bases loaded single added two to the Cardinals' tally to make it 11-2
- After a scoreless fourth inning, Jared Johnson hit the second BGSU home run of the game to cut into the lead 11-3 in the top of the fifth.
- Ball State answered with three runs in the bottom half of the fifth. A three-run home run with two outs extended the lead to 14-3.
- The Falcons fought in the sixth, logging a total of six runs in the inning. Kyle Gurney walked to begin the inning before scoring on an Adam Furnas double. Tyler Haas then singled to bring around Furnas for the first two runs.
- Ball State made a pitching change that resulted in a walk and single to load the bases for BGSU. Ryan Johnston drew a walk to tally another run. After another pitching change, Jack Krause singled to center, scoring both Nathan Rose and Nathan Archer.
- Later in the inning, Kyle Gurney singled to center, scoring another to make the score the eventual final at 14-9.
HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 2
- Ball State began the scoring in the second game of the day. A bases-loaded single brought all three runs home to put the Cardinals up 3-0 after one.
- The Orange and Brown got on the board in the third. With Ryan Johnston standing on third, Jack Krause sent a ball over the fence for a two-run home run to cut the score down to 3-2 Cardinals.
- Ball State added an insurance run in the fourth. Ryan Peltier doubled to start the inning for BSU. He then stole third and advanced home on a throwing error to push the score to 4-2.
- The Cardinals added a two-run home run to their score in the fifth to extend their lead to 6-2.
- Bowling Green battled back in the sixth. Kyle Gurney ripped a two-run home run to cut the lead down to 6-4. Later, a Nathan Rose single brought in Adam Furnas to make it 6-5.
- In the bottom half of the inning, Ball State extended their lead with a six-run inning to push the score to 12-5.
- Ball State added three runs in the seventh to make the final 15-5.

- In the second game, Jack Krause logged his team-leading fourth home run of the season.
- Kyle Gurney's home run in the second game of the day marked his first of the season after having six during the 2021 campaign.
