BGSU Women Win MAC Academic Award For Fourth Straight Year
September 05, 2017 | General
Cleveland, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's athletics program has been named the winner of the 2016-17 Mid-American Conference Women's Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) Academic Achievement Award.
Bowling Green won the award for the fourth consecutive year, five of the last six years and seven of the last nine academic seasons. The FAR Awards are designed to recognize the conference institution with the overall highest-grade point average (GPA) rank by gender.
"We are excited to once again win the MAC FAR Academic Achievement Award for our women's sports," Bowling Green State University Director of Athletics Bob Moosbrugger said. "This is a testament to the dedication our female student-athletes have in the classroom as well as on the field of competition. We applaud their continued excellence!"
The conference FAR's worked with the Athletic Academic Advisors to compute an award that best represents the academic achievement of students in a competitive setting. Using the same ranking method as the long-time Reese and Jacoby trophies (traditionally awarded to the best overall male and female athletic programs in the MAC), the FAR Awards are given to those institutions male and female programs with the highest overall GPA rank points within the conference. Only MAC sponsored sports are used.
Bowling Green had the highest GPA rank as the Falcons women carried the highest league GPA in women's golf, while posting the second highest GPA rank in women's basketball, women's swimming and diving and third best GPA rank in women's gymnastics and outdoor track and field during the 2016-17 academic year.
