QUOTING COACH NICHOLS
"Preseason is about process; trying to get better from day to day. So, we conclude our preseason fairly happy with the progress we have made, although it was probably a few steps forward and a step back for much of the way."
Â
"Each game, it felt like we improved upon a couple things, but we have a handful more that we need to improve upon before we play games that count."
Â
"You can only take so much out of exhibitions. They're good minutes, but they're really just training sessions. We like how we competed in them – our defense was pretty strong today, Anthony (Mwembia) had a great save that kept us in the game early on – but these games are only played in fourth gear. When we take the field against IUPUI next weekend, we're going to need to find another gear for sure."

FORMAT
- The Falcons and Crusaders played a total of three 30-minute periods on Friday morning/afternoon.
- Official statistics were not kept.
FIRST PERIOD
- In the third minute, a cross from sophomore Robert Miller III found the head of classmate Chris Brennan, but Brennan's shot went directly to the Valpo goalkeeper.
- The 10th minute of play saw a BG free kick rattle around the VU 18-yard box before freshman Zach Buescher got a boot on the ball. Buescher's hard shot went just wide of the mark.
- Midway through the period, junior Tate Robertson stole the ball from a Valpo midfielder and found Brennan. Brennan ripped a shot, but the 'keeper was able to make the stop.
- Late in the period, the Falcons got on the scoreboard. A Robertson free kick bounced around inside the 18 before finding an open Brennan. The BG soph played the ball across to junior Moe Mustafa, who found the back of the net. BG led, 1-0, after 30 minutes of play.
SECOND PERIOD
- Just two minutes into the period, a cross by Robertson was headed just wide by senior Alexis Souahy.
- In the 35th minute, junior Dominic Grida played a ball into the box. Keaton Reynolds beat the VU 'keeper to the ball, and the senior's header found the back of the net. But, the play was nullified due to an offside call on the Falcons.
- Midway through the period, Reynolds played Brennan into the box. Brennan's ball across the box just missed the incoming Charlie Maciejewski. But, moments later, BG would double the lead.
- After a Brennan cross, Robertson collected a loose ball in the box and scored to give the Falcons a two-goal lead after two periods.
THIRD PERIOD
- In the 72nd minute, a Robertson corner kick was headed back across the box by Mustafa. Reynolds met the ball with another header, but the shot went just wide.
- Less than a minute later, Souahy got his head on another Robertson corner, but the senior's shot went just over the crossbar.
