Volleyball's Garda to Compete in 2017 World University Games

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green volleyball alum Madeline Garda will be traveling to Taipei to compete in the 2017 World University Games. Garda will become the first Falcon Volleyball player to represent BGSU on the USA Team at the World University Games.
The libero will begin competition with the USA Team on Monday, Aug. 21 when they face Japan at 3 p.m. local / 3 a.m. Eastern time. On Tuesday, Aug. 22, the team will then take on Latvia at 3 p.m. local / 3 a.m. Eastern, followed by Thailand on Wednesday, Aug. 23 at the same respective time. The championship bracket will then begin with the Quarterfinal on Friday, Aug. 25, leading up to the gold medal final on Monday, Aug. 28.
Garda is a 2017 graduate of Bowling Green State University, where she was named MAC Defensive Player of the Year and named First Team All-MAC in 2016. The West Chester, Ohio native also led the country with 6.66 digs per set on the season and set the school record for total digs in a season with 726.
Also known as The Universiade, the World University Games is an international multi-sport event organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The Universiade is the largest multi-sport event in the world apart from the Olympic Games, where the United States has claimed a leading 474 gold 1249 total medals since its induction in 1959.
