Falcons Picked To Finish Third In MAC East In Preseason Media Poll

Canton, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University football team earned one first-place vote and was predicted to finish third in the Mid-American Conference East Division, as voted on by the league's media members. The poll was announced at the league's annual MAC Football Media Day at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton Wednesday.
In the East Division, defending champion Ohio was selected first with 131 total points, only two points greater than second-place Miami with 129 points. Bowling Green had 88 points, followed by Akron with 79, then Buffalo and Kent State. Toledo was selected first in the West Division and led with 142 points. Defending West Division champion Western Michigan was second with 107 points, while Northern Illinois was third with 89. Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan and Ball State rounded out the division. BGSU was one of only four teams that earned a vote to win the MAC Championship. Toledo picked up 21 of the 24 possible MAC Championship selections, while Bowling Green, Western Michigan and Miami were slotted as the champions on one ballot each.
BGSU has played in three of the past four MAC Championship games, winning the championship in both 2013 and 2015. The Falcons closed 2016 with three consecutive victories, building momentum for the upcoming season. For the MAC, the 2017 season kicks off on Thursday, Aug. 31 with three games. Bowling Green opens Saturday, Sept. 2 at Michigan State. The 2017 Marathon MAC Football Championship game will be played on Saturday, Dec. 2 at Ford Field in Detroit.
