Cleveland, Ohio –The Mid-American Conference recently concluded its 2017 Spring Meetings and following the Council of President's meeting, several new board appointments were announced.
Bowling Green State University President, Dr. Mary Ellen Mazey was elected Chair of the Council of Presidents, replacing Western Michigan University President, Dr. John M. Dunn, who served as Chair for the last four academic years.
"On behalf of the President's Council I want to thank Dr. Dunn for his leadership over the last four years," said Bowling Green State University President Dr. Mary Ellen Mazey. "I look forward to working with my colleagues to continue advancing the Mid-American Conference while helping our student athletes succeed academically and in their sports."
University of Toledo President, Dr. Sharon Gaber was named the MAC representative to the NCAA Presidential Forum, replacing Western Michigan's Dr. Dunn, who also served the NCAA Presidential Forum with a three-year term.
"I am honored to represent the Mid-American Conference as the Presidential Forum discusses and provides counsel on the issues facing the NCAA," Dr. Gaber said. "Intercollegiate athletics play an important role in higher education and I look forward to the opportunity to support our student-athletes and provide input on best practices for our campuses."
"It has been my honor and delight to serve as chair of the Council of Presidents for the past four years," said Dunn, who is retiring from his position as president of Western Michigan University this summer. "I leave the post knowing it is in the very good hands of Mary Ellen Mazey, who will provide outstanding leadership to the MAC. It has also been my pleasure to serve as the MAC's inaugural member of the NCAA's Presidential Forum, and Dr. Sharon Gaber is an excellent choice to represent the MAC and serve the NCAA in that role."
University at Buffalo President, Dr. Satish Tripathi was named the MAC representative to the NCAA Board of Directors, replacing former Ohio University President, Dr. Roderick J. McDavis, who served this role for the last four academic years. Dr. McDavis retired from Ohio University earlier this academic year.
"It is an honor to have been appointed to this important role in the Mid-American Conference, and I very much look forward to serving as a liaison between the MAC and the NCAA," Tripathi said. "I am committed to helping develop and shape policies that will promote the best interests of all student-athletes across the MAC, and to using this role to enhance every aspect of our MAC student-athletes' academic and athletic experiences."
