Spezia Named to U.S. National Team for 2017 IIHF Inline World Championship

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Bowling Green hockey's Tyler Spezia will compete on the world stage as he has been announced to the 14-man roster by USA Hockey for the 2017 International Ice Hockey Federation Inline Hockey World Championship. It will be Spezia's third time competing at the event, after earning a bronze medal in 2014.
Taking place at the Ondrej Nepala Arena in Bratislava, Slovakia, this year's tournament will begin Sunday, June 25 as Team USA takes on host Slovakia at 12 p.m. eastern time. The U.S. will then face Canada and Croatia before the Quarterfinals begin on Thursday, June 29. The Championships will then run through the Gold Medal Game on Saturday, July 1.
A native of Clinton Township, Mich., Spezia first competed in the IIHF Inline World Championships in 2014 in Pardubice, Czech Republic, where the forward notched two goals in the 12-5 victory over Sweden to earn a bronze medal. In 2015, Spezia earned three goals throughout the tournament in Tampere, Finland.
Team USA has medaled in five of the last seven tournaments, as well as 14 of the 19 total IIHF Inline World Championships previously staged. A free live stream of all games in the 2017 IIHF Inline Hockey World Championship will be available at IIHF.com.
