WCHA Composite Schedule
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Coming off of its third consecutive 20-win season, the Bowling Green hockey program has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2017-18 campaign. The regular season will include a total of 35 games including 18 at home in the Slater Family Ice Arena.
The Falcons 18 home games will include four non-conference matchups and 14 Western Collegiate Hockey Association games. On the season, Bowling Green will have a total of 28 WCHA games, seven non-conference matchups, and two games at the Great Lakes Invitational in Detroit, Mich.
After opening with a pair of home exhibition matchups, the Falcons will hit the road for the first game of a home-and-home series with NCHC rival Western Michigan. Bowling Green will continue non-conference play as it hosts the opening game of a home-and-home series with Big Ten foe Michigan State.
The Falcons will open WCHA action with a pair of homestands against both Minnesota State and Alaska Fairbanks, before hitting the road to face defending WCHA Champion Michigan Tech. Following a home series with Lake Superior State, the Falcons will again see the Mavericks of Minnesota State for the second time in the first half as they travel to Mankato, Minn.
Bowling Green will then head into the holiday break with six straight home games as it hosts in-state rival Miami in non-conference play prior to facing WCHA Regular Season Champion Bemidji State, followed by Alabama Huntsville. 2017 will then close out with the season's final non-conference game at home against Western Michigan on Dec. 28.
Highlighting the schedule is an appearance in the Great Lakes Invitational in Detroit, Mich., taking place for the first time at the new Little Caesar's Arena. Bowling Green will join Michigan, Michigan State and Michigan Tech for the annual event with the dates being announced in conjunction with the Detroit Red Wings in June.
After hosting five home WCHA series in the first half, the Falcons will have a travel-heavy road schedule heading into the playoffs. After hitting the road to take on Ferris State and Northern Michigan, Bowling Green will host its lone series at home in the month of January with Alaska Anchorage, prior to closing out the month in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. at Lake Superior State.
The Falcons will then host Michigan Tech for its final home series of the regular season Feb. 2-3, making it just four games taking place at the Slater Family Ice Arena in the regular season after the holiday break. Bowling Green will then round out the regular season on the road at Alaska Anchorage and Alabama Huntsville.
After a successful first season with the new playoff format, the WCHA Playoffs will again be held entirely at campus sites. The quarterfinal and semifinal series will be best two-of-three, while the WCHA Championship will be a single game contest, giving the Falcons the potential to earn up to seven additional home games prior to the NCAA Tournament.
Season tickets for the 2017-18 campaign are expected to go on sale nearing the end of May, while single-game tickets will be available in September. Keep up-to-date on Bowling Green hockey at BGSUFalcons.com or on Twitter @BGAthletics or @BGFalconHockey.
