Falcons Head To Elon To Close Regular Season
May 17, 2017 | Baseball
ELON, N.C. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team concludes its regular season this week at Elon University. The Falcons and Phoenix will begin their three-game series on Thursday (May 18) at 6 p.m. The series will conclude on Friday (May 19) with a doubleheader, beginning at 2 p.m.
The Falcons will be playing in Elon for the second-straight year. Last season, Bowling Green went 3-0 at the Elon Tournament. The Falcons earned wins over Elon, Appalachian State and Stony Brook.
"This is a great facility, and our guys enjoyed playing here last season," said Schmitz. "Elon is a very strong program. We obviously would like to make the MAC Tournament, but we need to play hard this weekend either way. We have seniors that are possibly finishing their careers this weekend, and we owe it to them to play our best baseball."
Bowling Green's MAC Tournament hopes are out of its hands. The Falcons finished up conference play with a series win versus Western Michigan last weekend. BGSU will need help in order to make the tournament. Scenarios are listed below.
SCOUTING ELON
Elon enters play this week with an overall record of 22-30. The Phoenix are 12-12 in the Colonial Athletic Association. EU has lost six of its last eight games, but the Phoenix are coming off a 5-3 victory over UNCW. Ryne Ogren leads the club with a .357 batting average. Two other players are hitting over .300 for EU, which is batting .255 as a team. Elon owns a 5.22 team ERA, and three pitchers on the staff have sub-4.00 ERA's. Kyle Brnovich leads the pitching staff in ERA (3.09), wins (6), innings pitched (81.2) and strikeouts (94).
