BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball program and head coach Danny Schmitz announced the signing of two future student-athletes Monday (May 1) afternoon to National Letters of Intent. Adam Furnas (Bowling Green, Ohio / Bowling Green High School) and Neil Lambert (Pontiac, Illinois / Arkansas State / Triton College) will join the Falcons for the 2018 season.
Furnas will be a freshman in 2018. He is currently teammates with Dylan Dohanos, who also signed his NLI to play at BGSU next season. Furnas is a 6-foot-3, 180-pound left-handed hitter, who throws right-handed. He is capable of playing several different positions. He is a three-time letterwinner for coach Bob Schultz.
"Adam is a very athletic player that has the ability to play anywhere in the infield and outfield," said Schmitz. "He is a plus runner and has some pop in his bat from the left side. With added strength, we feel that Adam's best baseball days are still ahead of him."
Last season, Furnas hit .350 with a .478 on-base percentage and 14 steals. His sophomore year, he hit .410 with a .490 on-base percentage and 12 stolen bases. The BGHS Bobcats went 19-8 last season, and lost in the district finals to the eventual state champions. As a junior, Furnas picked up Second Team All-Northern Lakes League honors, and was an Honorable Mention All-District selection.
Furnas, on top of being the captain for the baseball team as a senior, was also the captain for the hockey team in the winter. He is the son of Mike and Regina Furnas. He has one brother (Zachary) and one sister (Jessica).
Lambert started his career at Arkansas State, where he played in 29 games as a true freshman. He's currently playing for Triton College, and is having a breakout season. Lambert, who will have two years of eligibility at BGSU, has appeared in 39 games so far in 2017 with Triton, and he is hitting .374 with a .481 on-base percentage.
Lambert is expected to play shortstop at Bowling Green, and stands at 5-foot-11, and weighs 175 pounds. Neil, who hits left and throws right, is the son of Don and Linda Lambert.
"Neil will come to campus with a plus glove and some experience at the collegiate level under his belt," commented Schmitz. "He has a very high baseball IQ and is a tremendous leader, which is something you want out of your middle infielders."
He's scored 57 runs in 2017, and has drawn 28 walks compared to 26 strikeouts. This season, he's registered 12 doubles, three triples, two home runs and 22 RBI. He is 21-for-24 on stolen base attempts. Lambert has a .953 fielding percentage.
