Women's Golf Opens Seventh Annual Dolores Black Falcon Invitational Saturday

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green women's golf team continues the spring season by hosting the seventh annual Dolores Black Falcon Invitational on Saturday, April 8 through Sunday, April 9 at the par 72, 5,983-yard Stone Ridge Golf Club.
The Falcons will begin the 36-hole tournament in an 11 a.m. tee time on Saturday, followed by an 11 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday for the second round of action. Bowling Green will host a 10-team field including Central Michigan, Cleveland State, Ferris State, Findlay, Lawrence Tech, Oakland, Ohio, Detroit Mercy and the University of Illinois-Chicago.
Bowling Green will send out a lineup led by sophomore Erin Fahey, followed by freshman Jessica Madry, junior Madelynn Swank, sophomore Julia Durkin, and rounded out by junior Miranda Dubler. Competing individually for the Falcons will be senior Fran Rodriguez and sophomore Sarah Kern.
Most recently, sophomore Fahey topped the Bowling Green lineup for the fourth time this season with a score of 228, +12 at the ORU/SFA Spring Break Shootout. On her way to earning a final mark that placed her in a tie for 10th overall, Fahey tallied a team-leading eight birdies. Overall on the year, Fahey has finished as high as ninth on the leaderboard, and heads into the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational with a low round of 72 earned twice on the season.
Second in the lineup will be freshman Madry, who will be appearing in her eighth event of the 2016-17 season. At the ORU/SFA Spring Break Shootout, Madry marked a career low round of 75 in the second day of action, leading to a final score of 240, +24 paired with three birdies. The week prior at the Rio Verde Invitational, Madry finished the tournament with back-to-back rounds of 78 for a final score of 238, +22.
Junior Swank enters the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational coming off a score of 240, +24 at the Spring Break Shootout, an event in which she tallied three birdies. Earlier this season, Swank appeared in four of the fall's five events, carding a low round of 76 at the Cardinal Classic in September. After shooting a low round of 78 in the second day of the Spring Break Shootout, the Clarendon Hills, Ill. native made it the second consecutive event with a low round of 78 after opening the Rio Verde Invitational at the same mark.
Advancing to the number four spot in the Falcons lineup is sophomore Durkin, who has seen action in three events this season. Most recently, Durkin earned a season low round of 77 to open the Spring Break Shootout, ultimately leading to a total score of 243, +27. The score was earned by 25 par scores, three birdies and a 5.25, +2 stroke average on par 5 scoring and was her season debut in the team lineup. Earlier this year, Durkin also competed at the Dayton Fall Invitational and the Silver Lake Shootout in October as an individual.
After making her season debut as an individual player at the Dayton Fall Invitational, junior Dubler will enter the Bowling Green lineup in the number five spot this weekend. After opening play with a round of 87, the Mason, Ohio native carded a second round of 90 for a total score of 177, +37 at the Dayton Fall Invitational. In her sophomore campaign, Dubler turned in a stroke average of 83.56 over nine rounds of play, in addition to carding a low round of 77 on the year.
After appearing in all eight events thus far in the season, senior Rodriguez will compete as an individual at the Falcon Invitational. Most recently, Rodriguez completed the Spring Break Shootout with a 54-hole score of 246, +30 and averaged 5.25, +2 on par 5 holes. Earlier this year, the Flower Mound, Texas native carded a low round of 75 at the KZoo Classic in October.
Also competing individually will be sophomore Kern, who saw action in three events this fall, prior to earning a spot in the lineup at the Rio Verde Invitational. Kern marked a low round of 74 at the Cardinal Classic in September, and opened the spring season 2-1 at the Match Play Challenge. Most recently, Kern totaled a score of 264, +48 at the Rio Verde Invitational.
Last year's 15-team Falcon Invitational was cancelled after an unseasonably late snow storm, while two years back in 2015, the Falcons finished fourth overall of 11 teams after carding a total score of 617, +41. While playing for the Bowling Green B team in 2015 at the Falcon Invitational, Rodriguez tied for 21st overall with a score of 158, +14, while Swank finished in a tie for 44th by carding a 167, +23.
