BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team dropped both games of its doubleheader with Miami University on Friday (April 28) afternoon at Steller Field. Bowling Green mounted significant comebacks in both games, but Miami won the first game, 10-4, before claiming the second game by a score of 9-6.
Â
Bowling Green falls to 10-28 (5-12 MAC) with the losses, while Miami improves to 19-25 (5-9 MAC) on the season with the pair of wins. "I can't fault the effort," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "But we just didn't execute very well today, and Miami is a good team. They made us pay for our mistakes, and every time we got ourselves back into the game, they didn't allow us to put up a zero."
Â
Bowling Green erased a 3-1 lead in the first game by scoring three runs in the sixth, but the RedHawks plated five in the seventh and two in the eighth to claim the 10-4 win. In the second game, Miami held leads of 5-0 and 6-1, but the Falcons again refused to quit, scoring four in the fourth and one in the fifth to knot things at 6-6.
Â
However, Miami immediately took a 7-6 lead in the sixth with a two-out base hit. The RedHawks tacked two huge insurance runs on in the eighth. Bowling Green pounded out eight hits in both games, but Miami registered 15 hits and 11 hits, respectively.
Â
Joe McGuinness came up huge for the Falcons in the opener, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. He crushed a pair of RBI doubles in the contest. Greg Basalyga and Jake Wilson also drove in runs in the game.
Â
Cam Daugherty ripped a three-RBI double in the second game, while Riley Minorik went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Kody Brown logged a scoreless inning in relief for the Orange and Brown.
Â
The series is set to conclude tomorrow (April 29) at 1:05 p.m. Inclement weather is expected to be in the area, so fans are encouraged to stay tuned to @WEAREBGBaseball on Twitter for up-to-the-second updates. Schedule changes will also be reflected on BGSUFalcons.com.
