2017 BGSU Football Schedule
The BGSU Football team, in year two under head coach Mike Jinks, begins spring practice Monday afternoon. The Falcons will prepare for the 2017 Spring Scrimmage April 8 at 11:30 am. The spring prospectus can be viewed via the link above. Fans can also purchase season tickets today as the Falcons build momentum from a three-game win streak to close the 2016 season.
SETTING THE SPRING SCENE
* Bowling Green was one of just 20 teams in FBS Football to conclude the 2016 season on a winning streak of at least three games. The Falcons beat Akron, Kent State and Buffalo in succession to close out Mike Jinks' first season at the helm of the Orange and Brown.
* BGSU had eight 100-yard rushing performances over the span of those final three games. In fact, the Falcons closed the season with three 100-yard running backs in each of the final two games marking the first time that had happened in back-to-back games in program history.
* In the 42-7 win over Kent State, BGSU rushed for 420 yards, the most in a single game since running for 424 against Kent State on Oct. 24, 1998. The Falcons finished the season with 346 yards on the ground in a 27-19 win over Buffalo.
THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS
* Punter Joseph Davidson, who will be a redshirt senior in 2017, was named CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American, as well as being named third team All-American by Phil Steele.
* Davidson ranked sixth in the country at 45.8 yards per punt and was third in the nation with a net punting average of 43.07 yards.
* Davidson booted a career-best 82-yarder at Toledo, which tied for the longest punt in the NCAA this year. His 59.7 yard per punt average against Ohio was second-best in the country for a single game.
* In fact, Davidson posted nine 60+-yard punts in 2016. That led all FBS punters.
* Davidson also was named to the Academic All-America Division I football team for the second consecutive year. He holds a 3.952 grade point average with a double-major in finance and mathematics.
ALL-CONFERENCE RETURNERS
* Seven Falcons were named All-MAC in 2016 with four of those student-athletes returning in 2017.
* Junior wide receiver Scott Miller and redshirt senior punter Joseph Davidson were first team All-MAC a year ago.
* Senior center Tim McAuliffe was named third team All-MAC, while junior defensive back Jamari Bozeman was also recognized as a third-teamer.
* Trent Greene (second team), Logan Dietz (third team) and Fred Coppet (third team) were the three seniors named All-MAC.
THE RECRUITING CLASS
* Bowling Green signed 24 student-athletes for the class of 2017. Four of them are early enrollees.
* BGSU's recruiting class was ranked among the top three in the MAC by all three major recruiting services (247, Scout, Rivals).
* Wide receivers Datrin Guyton and Matthew Wilcox Jr., along with quarterback Jarret Doege and defensive back Fred Garth are all enrolled at BG and taking part in spring practice.
