COLORADO SPRINGS – Former Bowling Green State University volleyball player, and the 2016 MAC Defensive Player of the Year, Madeline Garda, is taking part in the United State's Women's National Team Open Tryouts this weekend at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. The tryout started yesterday, and will run through March 5.
Above is information, including a live video feed, for fans to follow along. There are 244 athletes from 81 colleges and 10 high schools taking part in the event. Players are competing for spots on the national team, collegiate national team and junior national teams.
"I am thrilled for Madeline to have this experience of participating in the USA Volleyball tryout," said head coach Danijela Tomic. "It was something we talked about after her sophomore year and it is great to see it happen. Madeline has earned this opportunity with all the hard work and sacrifices she has put in to become the best libero and teammate these last four years at BGSU. This once in a lifetime experience we are providing for Madeline would not have been possible without financial support of so many of our loyal fans and Falcon Club members, so I want to personally thank them for their continuing support.Â
"I have no doubt that Madeline will represent BGSU and our volleyball program in Colorado Springs with the best effort and class, as she has done it during her whole collegiate career."
Garda led all of NCAA Division I volleyball this past season with a digs per set average of 6.66. Along with her Defensive Player of the Year honors, she was named First Team All-MAC, and also earned a spot on the Academic All-MAC Team for the third-consecutive season.Â
