Orange and Brown Face No. 41 Irish This Weekend

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis team will travel to South Bend, Ind. Saturday to take on the Fighting Irish at 4 p.m at the Eck Tennis Pavillion.
The Falcons went 2-1 over the weekend improving their record to 4-4 on the season. BG defeated Detroit 5-2, Cleveland State 4-3 and fell to UIndy 4-3.
Against Detroit, sophomore Paula Comella and freshman Marharita-Sophia Tavpash along with sophomore Polina Radeva and freshman Ayumi Sasaki earned the doubles point for the Falcons giving BG a 1-0 advantage going into singles. Capturing singles victories for the Orange and Brown were Comella, Tavpash, Radeva and junior Emily Witt.
In the loss to UIndy, the Orange and Brown had a doubles win from the No. 2 duo of Radeva and Sasaski as well as singles victories from Comella, Radeva and Sasaki.
The Falcons bounced back in singles after losing the doubles point versus Cleveland State. Comella and Tavpash earned their fifth victory this season at the No. 1 doubles spot. Earning wins for BG in singles were Comella, Radeva, Tavapsh and Sasaki.
"We have another tough match this weekend against Notre Dame," head coach Stephanie Dalmacio said. "Their record so far shows competition and solid victories, but we are ready to take the challenge and battle for every point."
No. 41 Notre Dame enters the weekend with 7-1 overall record and are 2-0 in conference play. The Fighting Irish's one loss is to No. 4 Michigan. This is the fourth time these two team will face each other. The Falcons are 0-3 on the series with the most recent match having been played during the 2015-16 campaign when Notre Dame was ranked 32nd in the country. A year ago, the Fighting Irish went 14-14 overall, 5-9 in the ACC, and finished at No. 44. In the post season, Notre Dame fell to Georgia Tech in the ACC Quarterfinals after defeating Pittsburgh and No. 35 Clemson in the first and second rounds of the ACC Championship. The Fighting Irish advanced to the NCAA Championship first round where they lost to UCLA, 4-1.
Following this weekend's match, the Falcons will not return home until Sunday, March 26 when they face Toledo in the Battle of I-75. Between now and then the Falcons will close out the non-conference portion of their schedule against Xavier (Mar. 3), Houston (Mar. 7) and McNeese State (Mar. 8). The Orange and Brown begin conference play at Eastern Michigan (Mar. 24).
