Jane (Myers) Zwierlein Named NAADD Lifetime Achievement Award Winner
February 22, 2017 | General, Falcon Club
Cleveland, Ohio – The National Association of Athletic Development Directors (NAADD) has announced the recipients of its 2017 Awards. Bowling Green's Jane (Myers) Zwierlein earned the organization's coveted Lifetime Achievement Award. Holding the title of Assistant Athletics Director for Development upon her retirement from Athletics following the conclusion of the 2015-16 academic year, Zwierlein spent 28 years in collegiate athletics.
"For countless alumni and friends of BGSU, Jane is the face of the University," BGSU President Mary Ellen Mazey said. "Her record of cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gifts is second-to-none. She is simply a master of advancement work."
Zwierlein served as NAADD President in 2008-09 and made a significant difference at Bowling Green, working in development. During her time inside the realm of collegiate athletics development, Zwierlein enjoyed remarkable success and achievement in advancing Falcon Athletics through fundraising efforts. One of her biggest accomplishments was her direct involvement in the Bring Back The Glory Campaign, designed to restore BGSU Hockey to its rightful place among the nation's elite programs.
In addition, Zwierlein played a lead role in raising millions of dollars from generous alumni and was a key figure in securing a $20 million leadership gift from the late Bill Frack, a donation meant to raise the profile of the BGSU men's basketball program. Zwierlein made a tremendous impact on Falcon Athletics by creating engagement, passion and interest from its fans and supporters.
Zwierlein's work not only improved the student-athlete experience, but also the visibility of BGSU and created an industry standard.
"Jane's impact at BGSU has extended well beyond her work on behalf of Athletics," Dan Meyer, Associate AD for Development, said. "In many ways, Jane's work has resonated across the campus, connecting friends and alumni back to the University in countless ways. I'm proud to call Jane a friend, colleague and mentor, exceedingly deserving of this recognition by the National Association of Athletic Development Directors."
David Crum, Senior Associate AD for Development at Colorado State was named the University Division Fundraiser of the Year, while Grant Kelly, Senior Associate AD/Director of Development at Johns Hopkins, was named named the College Division Fundraiser of the Year. Danielle Melman, Assistant AD for External Relations at California San Diego, earned the Rising Star Award.
"On behalf of NAADD, I want to congratulate Jane, Danielle, David and Grant on being named this year's NAADD Award winners and for all of their impressive contributions to our industry," NAADD President Josh Rebholz, Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Relations at UCLA, said. "We are very excited to recognize their accomplishments at the upcoming NAADD Convention this June."
The award winners will be honored June 14 at the Learfield Directors' Cup Luncheon, held in conjunction with the 52nd annual NACDA and Affiliates Convention at the World Center Marriott Resort in Orlando, Fla.
