BGSU Hall Of Famer Pete Farrell To Be Inducted Into Ohio Lacrosse Hall Of Fame
February 14, 2017 | General, Men's Soccer, Hall of Fame
Columbus, Ohio – Ohio Lacrosse Hall of Fame Chairman Paul Eldridge announced that BGSU Athletics Hall of Famer Pete Farrell is one of five individuals selected for induction into the Ohio Lacrosse Hall of Fame as the class of 2017.
"Our class of 2017 reflects the history and growth of the game in the state of Ohio," Eldridge said. "It includes both pioneers of the game, and outstanding players from a more modern era. We are honored to be inducting five outstanding individuals who have contributed to the growth of lacrosse both on and off the field."
The 2017 Ohio Lacrosse Hall of Fame includes Farrell, Brandon Shook, Craig Kahoun, David Blue and Mark Howell. The class will be honored at the annual Ohio Lacrosse Hall of Fame induction luncheon. Along with the Hall of Fame inductees, the Ohio High School boys and girls All-Americans representing the three US Lacrosse Chapters in Ohio will be recognized. The luncheon takes place June 10 and is open to the public. Tickets may be purchased online for $50 at www.locallevelevents.com.
Pete Farrell (BGSU, 1965-69)
Farrell was a speedy midfielder for BGSU in the early days of lacrosse in Ohio. His record for the most ground balls in a game still stands today. He was a three-time All-American and scored the winning goal for the South in the annual North/South College All-Star game in 1969. He was a multi-year co-captain and was named his team's Most Valuable Player. As a player during the transition from wooden sticks to plastic, his Master's thesis was on the effects of wood vs. plastic on the face-off. His research determined the player's ability, not the type of stick, determined face-off success. A copy of his thesis is held at the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame. He currently resides in Wilmington, N.C.
Farrell was inducted in the BGSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1982 after serving as a standout player on both the BGSU lacrosse and soccer teams. He was a three-year starter on the varsity team in both sports, serving as a co-captain of the soccer team as a junior and senior. He was team's Most Valuable Player and All-Ohio at center back.
