December 21, 2017 | Football, General, Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country, Women's Soccer, Volleyball, Falcon Club
Cleveland, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced that 13 BGSU student-athletes were named Distinguished Scholar-Athletes across six sports during the 2017 fall athletics season.
Student-athletes must maintain a 3.20 cumulative grade point average to be eligible for the award and must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residency are not eligible. From the list of eligible student-athletes, the MAC's faculty athletic representatives select the Distinguished Scholar-Athletes from each sport, equivalent to 20 percent of nominees.
The BGSU football team led the way with five honorees, tied for the most in the MAC. Men's cross country posted two Distinguished Scholar-Athletes, tied for second-most in the conference, while women's cross country, women's soccer and volleyball tied for third most in the league in their sport with two selections each.
Among the 127 student-athletes recognized across all schools for the fall, only three student-athletes earned the honor for the fourth time in their careers – two of those honorees were BGSU redshirt senior football players Joseph Davidson and Nate Locke.
Men's cross country senior Nick Voth earned the honor for the third time in his career, as did women's cross country senior Elena Lancioni and redshirt junior Rachel Walny. Senior football player Ryan Hunter also was recognized for the third time.
Men's cross country junior Noah Schaub and football senior Trevor Roop were both two-time selections.
