THE TURNING POINT
- Seton Hill rallied from an early nine-point deficit to tie the game on three occasions, including on a Halie Torris jumper with four minutes left before the half. But, a free throw by junior Maddie Cole began a 12-1 run for the Brown and Orange, capped by freshman Madisen Parker's corner three with just 3.9 seconds left in the half.
- Then, in the third quarter, the Falcons scored the first eight points to take a 17-point lead, and after Torris hit a jumper, the hosts continued to pull away with some torrid shooting. BG made five-straight field-goal attempts to begin the period, and after a rare third-quarter miss, the hosts hit six consecutive shots, capped by a Sierra Thompson layup that gave BG a 68-40 advantage.
FIRST-QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior Sydney Lambert his a three-pointer on the first possession of the game, and a layup by senior Haley Puk was followed by a pair of free throws by junior Carly Santoro.
- Jenna Kaufman, Seton Hill's leading scorer a year ago, hit a shot to get her team on the board, but Santoro hit two more charity tosses, and sophomore Jane Uecker's layup off of her own steal gave the Falcons an 11-2 lead and forced the Griffins to call a timeout with 6:35 left in the quarter.
- SHU scored the next four points, including a Courtney Cecere triple, before sophomore Andrea Cecil fed Uecker for a layup and a 13-6 lead.
- But, an 8-0 run enabled the visitors to tie the contest, 14-14, before sophomore Caterrion Thompson found freshman Madisen Parker for a left-wing three.
- The teams traded points over the remaining two-plus minutes of the period, with Lindsey Mifsud's late free throws cutting BG's lead to 23-22 after 10 minutes.
SECOND-QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
- As she had done in the first quarter, Lambert opened the second-period scoring. She made a pair of layups to give BG a 27-22 lead.
- But, Halie Torris hit a jumper, and after the teams went scoreless for two and a half minutes, a Cecere trey tied the score. A pull-up jumper by senior Rachel Myers gave the Falcons the lead once again, but Torris knocked down another J to tie the score at 29-all with four minutes left before the half.
- But, junior Maddie Cole's free throw was followed by a Lambert jumper with the shot clock winding down, giving the hosts a 32-29 lead.
- Katie Nolan split a pair of free-throw tries, but a Santoro layup began a 9-0 run for the Falcons. Lambert hit a right-wing triple, and after Cecil blocked a Seton Hill shot and Uecker corralled the rebound, Lambert whipped the ball to an open Parker in the left corner for a three-pointer in the final seconds of the half.
- A pair of Cheyenne Trest free throws in the last second cut the BG lead to single digits, 41-32, at the intermission.
THIRD-QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
- BG scored the first eight points of the period, capped by a Lambert triple after a defensive rebound and a coast-to-coast drive. The Falcons led, 49-32.
- After Torris hit a shot for the visitors, Uecker scored inside, and Lambert found a cutting Cecil for a short jumper and a 53-34 advantage.
- The lead surpassed 20 points for the first time midway through the quarter, when Puk made a nifty shot fake, took a dribble and hit a silky-smooth baseline jumper for a 57-36 margin.
- Caterrion Thompson's long pass to freshman Sierra Thompson resulted in a three-point play that bridged the third-quarter media timeout. When Sierra Thompson hit the free throw out of that break, the Falcons had a 62-38 lead.
- Nolan hit a layup for the Griffins, but Sierra Thompson drove and dished to Uecker for an easy layup, and the freshman then hit a layup of her own, and followed that with a steal at midcourt, an uncontested layup and a 68-40 lead.
- Parker pounded the ball inside to Uecker for a layup, and a steal and wide-open layup by Williams gave the Falcons a 72-43 lead before the visitors scored the last seven points of the quarter.
FOURTH-QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS
- The BG lead fluctuated between 20 and 23 points for the first half of the fourth quarter. Parker found Sierra Thompson for a layup and a 77-55 lead, and Thompson cleaned up a teammate's miss with an offensive board and lightning-quick putback on BG's next possession.
- Another Sierra Thompson layup gave the Falcons an 81-59 advantage midway through the period, and the freshman took a pass from Caterrion Thompson and converted a transition layup.
- Then, back-to-back Williams three-pointers capped a 10-0 BG run that extended the home team's lead to 30 points. SHU's Sydney Rabold hit a three-pointer of her own, but Williams connected on her third long-range shot in a span of under two minutes to cap the game's scoring.
STATISTICS
- The Falcons shot an even 54 percent from the field, while limiting Seton Hill to a 31.4% success rate.
- Both teams made eight three-pointers, but BG did so in 22 tries (36.4%) while it took the Griffins 39 attempts (20.5%) to get there.
- The Orange and Brown had a 50-33 rebounding advantage, and BG also enjoyed sizable margins in points in the paint (40-16), fast-break points (18-5) and bench scoring (43-27).
- Junior Sydney Lambert and freshman Sierra Thompson each scored 17 points in the win. Thompson was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field, and scored her 17 points in just 15 minutes.
- Another freshman, Kennedy Williams, had 11 points. Williams and Lambert each went 3-of-5 from three-point land.
- Junior Carly Santoro had a double-double, with 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while sophomore Jane Uecker also scored 10 points. Uecker, who was 5-for-7 from the floor, had a well-rounded stat line that included six rebounds and BG-high totals of two steals and two blocked shots.
- Caterrion Thompson had a well-rounded stat line of her own. The sophomore had six points, seven rebounds and a game-high six assists in 23 minutes.
- Senior Haley Puk (a perfect 2-for-2 from both the field and the line) had six points as well, as did sophomore Andrea Cecil and freshman Madisen Parker.
- Jenna Kaufman led the visitors with 17 points, while Halie Torris and Courtney Cecere scored 11 apiece and Sydney Rabold added 10. Kaufman and Torris were a combined 11-for-32 from the field, including an aggregate 2-of-18 from three-point land.
