November 29, 2017 | Football
Cleveland, Ohio – Six members of the Bowling Green State University football team were named to the 2017 All-MAC Team, as announced by the Mid-American Conference Wednesday.
Redshirt senior punter Joseph Davidson was named first team All-MAC for the third consecutive season. He was the only three-time first team All-MAC player selected this year and the first Falcon to earn three first team All-MAC honors since Brian McClure (who was a four-time selection from 1982-85).
Redshirt senior wide receiver Teo Redding and junior kicker Jake Suder were named to the second team, while junior wide receiver Scott Miller, freshman running back Andrew Clair and redshirt senior linebacker Nate Locke were named third team.
Davidson was a two-time semifinalist for the Ray Guy Award, given to the top punter in the country. He led the MAC at 44.0 yards per punt and his net punting average of 42.3 yards was also best in the conference and among the best in the nation. Of his 60 punts, 28 were downed inside the 20 and only two went for touchbacks. He had 10 punts of at least 50 yards on the season.
Redding had a break-out season in 2017, catching 45 passes for 624 yards. His eight touchdown receptions led the team and he was the team's top deep threat, regularly making acrobatic catches over defenders. In a win over Miami, Redding had eight catches for 197 yards and two touchdowns. Seven of his eight TD grabs came in conference play and five of his touchdowns came over the final four weeks of the season.
Suder had one of the greatest kicking seasons in BGSU history, going 18-for-22 on field goals and 32-of-33 on extra points. Two of his four misses came from beyond 50 yards and he was virtually automatic inside of 40, going 16-of-17. Suder made all four of his attempts against South Dakota and made his first nine field goal attempts of the season. His 18 made field goals in 2017 tied for the third-most in a single-season in program history.
Miller led the Falcons with 63 catches and 722 receiving yards in 2017. He added four touchdowns and had a pair of 100-yard receiving games. At MTSU, Miller picked up eight catches for 112 yards and touchdown. He also had 100 yards at Buffalo, recording 10 catches for 108 yards and a TD. He also had 10 catches at home against Akron.
Clair was one of the top true freshman running backs in the country in 2017 and he finished with 107 carries for 725 yards, averaging 6.8 yards per carry, the best average in program history for a single-season. At one point, Clair had four consecutive 100-yard games, starting the run by posting 121 at Miami and then going for 148 against Ohio. He followed that up with 108 yards against Northern Illinois and capped it with 111, on just eight carries, at Kent State. He finished with 675 rushing yards in eight conference games, averaging 7.0 yards per carry against MAC opponents.
Locke was the quarterback of the BGSU defense in 2017, starting all 12 games at middle linebacker and recording 93 tackles. He tied for the team lead with 8.5 tackles for loss and had two quarterback sacks. Locke also had three quarterback hurries and a fumble recovery. He posted at least 10 tackles on three occasions, including a season-high 15 at Michigan State to open 2017. In the final two games of his career, he had 13 tackles against Toledo and then added nine at Eastern Michigan.
