THE 2017-18 FALCONS
Roos and her staff -- which is comprised of assistant coaches Jacey Brooks, Nick Moore and Jessie Ivey, director of operations Monique Rosati and video coordinator Amanda Cutcher -- welcome back a total of nine student-athletes, including three starters, from last year's team. The group of returnees includes a pair of seniors in Rachel Myers and Haley Puk, who are joined by a trio of juniors in Santoro, Maddie Cole and Sydney Lambert. The sophomore class is comprised of Andrea Cecil, Caterrion Thompson and Jane Uecker, and redshirt freshman Clare Glowniak also returns after missing the bulk of the 2016-17 schedule due to injury.
Santoro recently was named to the Preseason All-Mid-American Conference Team. She led the Falcons in scoring a year ago, averaging 12.0 points per game. Santoro is the Falcons' top returning rebounder as well, having pulled down 7.4 boards per contest last winter.
Lambert, like Santoro, started all 31 games in her sophomore season, averaging 10.4 ppg and a team-leading 2.3 assists per game. Lambert and Santoro combined to make 115 three-point field goals in 2016-17.
Puk rounds out the Falcons' returning starters, having started the last 24 contests of her junior year. She was fifth on the team in scoring (6.1 ppg) and was third on the team in three-point field goals made. Lambert, Santoro and Puk ranked first through third on the team, respectively, in successful triples as well as steals.
Five of the other six returnees played in at least 29 of the team's 31 games last fall. The lone exception is Glowniak, who played in each of the first 12 contests before missing the remainder of the season due to injury.
Seven returning players averaged double-digit minutes per game last season, with an eighth playing over nine minutes per outing.
The Falcons' nine total returnees are joined by five freshmen, including Terri Battle, Madisen Parker, Angela Perry, Sierra Thompson and Kennedy Williams.
A QUICK LOOK AT SETON HILL
Seton Hill was picked to finish fourth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's West Division in the league's preseason poll. Head coach Mark Katarski and the Griffins return seven players who saw action in at least 25 games a year ago. Katarski was named PSAC West Coach of the Year last season after leading the team to a 16-13 overall record and a 12-10 mark in PSAC West play. All-PSAC West performer Jenna Kaufman, who averaged 15.2 points and 5.9 rebounds last season, headlines the returnees.
FAMILIAR FACE ON THE OTHER BENCH
Former Falcon women's basketball standout Miriam Justinger is in her second season as a graduate assistant coach at Seton Hill. Justinger, a native of Sylvania, Ohio, was a four-year starter for Roos and the Falcons. She was named the team's Impact Player of the year as a senior in 2015-16, after leading the team or ranking among the BG leaders in numerous categories. She scored 1,027 points in her career, and reached the 1,000-point mark in dramatic fashion, hitting a contested three-point try from the top of the arc late in what would prove to be the final home game of her career, a 20-point win over Miami. Justinger, who was selected to be a part of the WBCA's 'So You Want to be a Coach' program, finished her career tied for 25th on the school's all-time scoring list. She also posted career totals of 460 rebounds, 267 assists, 130 steals and 114 three-pointers made.
UP NEXT FOR THE FALCONS
Following Sunday's exhibition, the Falcons will be back at the Stroh just five days later for the regular-season opener. BGSUÂ hosts Eastern Kentucky on Friday evening, Nov. 10, in a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
The non-conference schedule also includes home dates vs. Canisius (Nov. 19), Valparaiso (Nov. 28), Xavier (Dec. 6) and Ferris State (Dec. 18), and the MAC slate begins with a trip to Kalamazoo for a Dec. 30 game at Western Michigan.
The Falcons' conference home opener is set for Jan. 3 vs. Eastern Michigan, and BGSU's MAC home schedule also includes dates with Ball State, Toledo and WMU, along with the other five East Division schools.
