November 15, 2017 | Volleyball
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Bowling Green volleyball program continued its success in the 2017 season by harboring six individual honors by the Mid-American Conference by four different players.
Junior libero Kallie Seimet has been recognized as 2017 MAC Volleyball Player of the Year, being the first from the program since 1995 (Carlyn Esslinger) and just the fifth player to earn the honor in program history. Additionally, Seimet was awarded 2017 MAC Defensive Player of the Year and to All-MAC First Team honors.
Bowling Green also had sophomore setter Isabelle Marciniak and senior Nicole Slimko voted to All-MAC Honorable Mention, while freshman Katie Kidwell was selected to the MAC All-Freshman Team.
Seimet becomes just the third player in league history to receive two individual honors in the same season, joining Northern Illinois' Lauren Wicinski (2010 – Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year) as well as Ohio's Abby Gilleland (2013 and 2014 – Player of the Year and Setter of the Year). It is also the first time in Mid-American Conference history that a libero has been honored as Player of the Year.
Seimet's 2017 MAC Defensive Player of the Year honor is just the second in Bowling Green volleyball program history, while it is the second consecutive season that the Falcons have taken the honor home (Madeline Garda, 2016). With Seimet's All-MAC First Team honor, it also marks the third consecutive season, and five of the last six years under Coach Tomic that Bowling Green has had at least one player recognized on All-MAC First Team.
A native of Lambertville, Mich., Marciniak followed up her 2016 MAC Freshman of the Year honor with 2017 Volleyball All-MAC Honorable Mention accolades, as she earned a team-leading 11 double-doubles over the course of the regular season.
After leading the Bowling Green squad with 262 kills in the regular season for a 2.73 kills per set average, Slimko was also named to All-MAC Honorable Mention honors. It is Slimko's first seasonal MAC honor of her career.
A middle blocker, freshman Katie Kidwell earned a pair of Defensive Player of the Week honors this season, and added to her accolades with an All-Freshman Team award. With Kidwell's 2017 MAC Volleyball All-Freshman Team honor, it is also the second consecutive year that a Falcon has been recognized with the award.
After earning its first MAC Regular Season Championship since 1992 this season, the Bowling Green volleyball program will look to continue its success this weekend, as it battles as the No. 2 seed in the 2017 MAC Tournament. The Falcons earned a double-bye to the MAC Semifinals, and will compete against either No. 3 Ball State, No. 6 Western Michigan or No. 7 Central Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. in Oxford, Ohio.
