MY BABY TAKES THE MORNING TRAIN
For the Falcons, Monday's game in Detroit is the first of three morning tipoffs in the span of under a month. BGSU's next two games, at UDM and Robert Morris, each start during the morning, and the Falcons' home matchup with Xavier on Dec. 6 will begin at 11:00 a.m.
#CanScoreO
Junior Carly Santoro exploded for 30 points, pacing the Falcons to a 77-60 win over Eastern Kentucky Friday evening (Nov. 10) at the Stroh Center. The game marked the second 30-point outing of her career, and with 10 rebounds, it was her sixth double-double as a Falcon. Santoro scored a career-high 32 points at Kent State last season, and had five double-doubles during the 2016-17 campaign.
Santoro has had two of those double-doubles against Eastern Kentucky. She had a 20-point, 12-rebound effort in last year's opener in Richmond, Ky., and now is averaging 25.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game vs. the Colonels.
Friday marked Santoro's fifth game of 20 or more points at BG, and pushed her over the 500-point mark for her career. The Bellevue, Ohio, native now has 520 career points in 60 games as a Falcon.
30 FOR 30
Carly Santoro's 30-point performance on Friday evening, as mentioned, was the second such game of her Falcon career. She becomes just the 11th player in school history to post multiple 30-point games in a career.

30 FOR 30: VOLUME II
As Carly Santoro and the BGSU women were wrapping up the win over Eastern Kentucky, the Falcon men's basketball team opened the 2017-18 season at Drexel. The BG men downed the Dragons, 78-69, behind redshirt freshman Justin Turner's game-high 33 points.
Friday marked the first time in nearly 16 years that a BGSU men's basketball player and a BGSU women's basketball player scored 30 or more points on the same day.
On Jan. 12, 2002, Stefanie Wenzel scored a career-high 30 points as the Falcons downed Buffalo, 71-69, inside venerable Anderson Arena.
Meanwhile, in Western New York on that same day, BGSU Hall-of-Famer Keith McLeod went off for 42 points as the Falcon men bested the Bulls, 85-73.

LAST TIME OUT: SANTORO'S 30-POINT PERFORMANCE LIFTS BG PAST EKU
Junior Carly Santoro exploded for 30 points and sparked a second-quarter uprising as the Falcons downed Eastern Kentucky, 77-60, on Friday evening (Nov. 10) at the Stroh Center.
Santoro scored 17 of her 30 points in the second quarter alone, as the Falcons scored 33 points in that 10-minute span to take a 43-35 halftime lead.
After making 2-of-3 shots from the field to begin the game, the Falcons went just 1-for-12 over the remainder of the first period. But, in that second quarter, BG shot a blistering 71.4 percent from the floor, going 5-for-7 from both two-point range and three-point land.
Â
After EKU scored the final six points of the first half, the Brown and Orange scored eight-straight points to begin the third quarter, and the margin remained in double digits for the remainder of the contest.
Â
Santoro had a double-double, with a game-high 10 rebounds, while senior Haley Puk scored 11 points to join Santoro in double figures in that category.
Â
A'Queen Hayes had 13 points to pace three double-digit scorers for the Colonels.
BGSU hit eight three-pointers to the Colonels' five, and shot 40% from long range to the visitors' 33%. The Falcons turned the ball over just five times, while forcing EKU into 18 turnovers. The hosts enjoyed a 30-6 advantage in points off turnovers.
PROTECT THE BASKETBALL...
The Falcons averaged 16.3 turnovers per game, the second-highest average in the Mid-American Conference, last season. But, on Friday, BGSU turned the ball over just five times vs. Eastern Kentucky.
BGSU's turnover total ties a school-record low for a single game. The Falcons also had just five turnovers just under six years ago – in BG's last game vs. Detroit (the Falcons' next opponent) on Nov. 22, 2011. Single-game records from the early days of Falcon women's basketball are incomplete, but no other game has been unearthed in which BG had five or fewer turnovers.
The Orange and Brown went nearly 19 minutes before committing a turnover to start the game. BG then turned the ball over three times in the final 1:22 of the first half, leading to a 6-0 EKU run to end the second quarter.
But, the Falcons then proceeded to turn the ball over just twice in the second half. After coughing it up on back-to-back possessions early in the third period, BG had zero turnovers over the game's final 16:32.
...AND MAKE THEM COUGH IT UP
BGSU forced EKU into 18 turnovers on the night, and the Falcons had a 30-6 advantage in points off turnovers.
The Falcons' total of 30 points off turnovers was the team's highest in over three years, since BG had 34 such points in a 91-45 dismantling of Miami on Feb. 9, 2014, at the Stroh.
Â
QUARTERLY REPORT
The 2017-18 season marks the third year in which NCAA women's basketball has utilized a four-quarter format. And, the Falcons 33 points in the second period on Friday night tied a school record for points in a quarter during that time.
BG also scored 33 points in a quarter against Akron last season, amassing that total in the third period of an 86-50 win over the Zips at the Stroh Center.
Additionally, junior Carly Santoro set a BGSU record for points in a quarter by an individual, scoring 17 second-quarter points vs. EKU. Santoro held the 'old' record with 15 points in the fourth quarter of BGSU's game vs. Central Michigan last season (Jan. 14, 2017). On that date, Santoro broke the record of 14 points, set by classmate Sydney Lambert in the first quarter of that same CMU contest.
ABOUT THE FALCONS
Head coach Jennifer Roos and her staff – which is comprised of assistant coaches Jacey Brooks, Nick Moore and Jessie Ivey, director of operations Monique Rosati and video coordinator Amanda Cutcher – welcome back a total of nine returning players, including three starters, from a year ago. The list of returnees includes two seniors, three juniors and four second-year Falcons.
Rachel Myers and Haley Puk comprise the senior class, while Maddie Cole, Sydney Lambert and Carly Santoro enter their junior year. Sophomores Andrea Cecil, Caterrion Thompson and Jane Uecker also return, as does Clare Glowniak, who is a redshirt freshman in terms of eligibilty after missing the bulk of last season due to injury.
The nine returnees are joined by five freshmen, including Terri Battle, Madisen Parker, Angela Perry, Sierra Thompson and Kennedy Williams. The frosh combined for 34 points in the exhibition win over Seton Hill.
Santoro, obviously, leads the Falcons in scoring after one game this season, with 30 points in the win over EKU. Puk added 11, while Lambert scored nine, Cecil and Sierra Thompson eight apiece and Uecker six.
Santoro had a team-high 10 rebounds, while Sierra Thompson pulled down eight boards in her collegiate debut. Lambert paced the team with three assists, and Lambert and Puk each had three steals vs. the Colonels.
BGSU's starters on Friday were Cecil, Lambert, Puk, Santoro and Uecker. The two sophomores, Cecil and Uecker, made the first start of their respective collegiate careers.
Santoro recently was named to the Preseason All-MAC Team. She led the Falcons in scoring a year ago, averaging 12.0 points per game. Santoro is the Falcons' top returning rebounder as well, having pulled down 7.4 boards per contest last winter.
Lambert, like Santoro, started all 31 games in her sophomore season, averaging 10.4 ppg and a team-leading 2.3 assists per game. Lambert and Santoro combined to make 115 three-point field goals in 2016-17, with Lambert knocking down a team-high 71 long-range shots.
Puk rounds out the Falcons' returning starters, having started the last 24 contests of her junior year. She was fifth on the team in scoring (6.1 ppg) and was third on the team in three-point field goals made. Lambert, Santoro and Puk ranked first through third on the team, respectively, in successful triples as well as steals.
Five of the other six returnees played in at least 29 of the team's 31 games last fall. The lone exception is Glowniak, who played in each of the first 12 contests before missing the remainder of the season due to injury.
Seven returning players averaged double-digit minutes per game last season, with an eighth playing over nine minutes per outing.
THREE-MARKABLE
Through the years, BGSU rosters typically have been stocked with players who can score from three-point range. No fewer than 12 different players made at least one three-point field goal two years ago, and all 12 members who saw action last year knocked down at least one trey. Four players hit at least one triple vs. EKU in this year's opener, with three players knocking down two or more.
THREE-MENDOUS
The Falcons made 10 or more three-point field goals in four MAC games last season, including a season-high 15 treys against Akron at the Stroh Center. Overall, BG made at least eight triples in 14 of last year's 31 games, and the Falcons hit eight long-range shots in this year's opener vs. EKU.
THREE-LIGHTFUL
Two years ago, the Falcons made at least five three-point field goals in 24 of 28 games, and BG hit at least four triples in all 28 contests. Last year, BGSU connected at least four times in 27 of the 31 games, and that trend continued vs. EKU.
THREE-GION OF BOOM
In fact, BG has knocked down four or more three-pointers in 88 of the last 93 games, dating to late in the 2013-14 season.
THREE- ... UMMM, SOME OTHER PHRASE THAT STARTS WITH 'THREE'
BGSU will be looking to extend a mucho-impressive streak in the Detroit Mercy game. The Falcons have hit at least one three-pointer in each of the last 401 games. BG has not been held without a triple in over 12 years – since Feb. 12, 2005, at Akron, when the Falcons won, 61-52, despite going 0-of-13 from long distance.
A TRADITION OF SUCCESS
Bowling Green has won 14 MAC regular-season championships and 11 league tournament titles, the highest totals among all conference teams. Prior to the injury-plagued season of 2014-15, the Falcons had won at least 20 games in a MAC-record 11 consecutive years. BG won at least 24 games in nine-straight seasons during that span, losing just 18 total games in MAC regular-season play during those nine years.
The Falcons made 10 consecutive national postseason trips from 2005-14, with five NCAA Championships appearances and five trips to the WNIT during that time. The 2006-07 team was the most successful in MAC history, winning a league-record 31 games en route to an NCAA 'Sweet Sixteen' appearance.
Overall, BGSU has won 20 or more games 19 times, the highest total among all Mid-American Conference women's basketball-playing institutions.
SCOUTING DETROIT MERCY
Detroit is 0-1 on the young season, having dropped a 91-64 decision on the road against MAC foe Miami on Friday. The Titans went 18-14 overall and 12-6 in the Horizon League last year, and were picked to finish fifth in the HL this season, according to the league's preseason poll. Senior forward Brianne Cohen, who was an All-HL Second-Team selection a year ago, was named to the Preseason All-HL Team in '17-18. She averaged 15.2 ppg a year ago. UDM has eight total letterwinners, including three starters, back from last season's club. Head coach Bernard Scott is in his third season with the Titans. UDM has broken the school single-season record for three-pointers made in each of his first two years.
THE BGSU-UDM SERIES
The Falcons lead Detroit Mercy, 13-10, in the all-time series between the teams, and BG has captured the last seven meetings. The Falcons and Titans have not met for six years, since a 57-49 BG win at Calihan Hall on Nov. 22, 2011. That game saw BG commit a school record-low five turnovers (a feat the current team matched vs. EKU on Friday), and the Falcons won despite being outrebounded by 25 (56-31). The Falcons rallied from an early 15-point deficit (26-11) for the win in that 2011 trip to the Motor City. UDM's last series win came in November of 2001, and was the first-ever loss in the Curt Miller-Jennifer Roos Era. BGSU is 7-4 at home and 6-6 on the road vs. UDM over the years.
UP NEXT
Following the UDM game, the Falcons' stretch of four games in a 10-day span continues with a Thursday morning (Nov. 16) matchup at Robert Morris. That contest is set for a 10:00 a.m. tipoff. BGSU's next home game is Sunday, Nov. 19, when the Falcons face Canisius on Moana Day at the Stroh Center.
