BGSU picks up award for seventh time in the last eight years
The Bowling Green State University men's soccer program has earned an academic honor again this season. The Falcons have received the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2016-17Â academic year, the USC office announced recently.
The USC (formerly NSCAA) Team Academic Award is given to soccer programs that have achieved a minimum team grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
The Falcons of head coach Eric Nichols had a team GPA of 3.13 in the 2016-17 academic year. Nichols' team was recognized for the seventh time in the last eight seasons, and the men's soccer Falcons made the list for the ninth time overall.
A total of 838 college soccer teams (293Â men, 545Â women) across all divisions posted a team GPA of 3.00 or higher and were honored by the USC this season. Of that total, 208 schools -- including BGSU -- had both their men's and women's programs recognized.

Nichols and the 2017Â Falcons travel to Wright State for Tuesday night's (Oct. 10) battle for the I-75 Cup. Then, the Brown and Orange will return home to face West Virginia in a key Mid-American Conference contest at Cochrane Stadium on Saturday evening (Oct. 14). Each of this week's two matches is set to begin at 7:00 p.m., and admission to all BGSUÂ home regular-season soccer matches is free.
