BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Bowling Green tennis program concluded the Buffalo Invitational with 12 head-to-head victories over the course of the three-day tournament, while junior Paula Comella and freshman Marta Bettinelli claimed their second doubles title of the season.

Due to inclement weather, consolation brackets were not completed as there was limited competition space indoors, although all seven Falcons were able to pick up at least one win on the weekend.

Buffalo Invitational Highlights

Over the course of the three-day tournament, the Falcons picked up a total of 12 match victories in addition to the Medium Draw Doubles title.
Junior Paula Comella paired up with freshman Marta Bettinelli to notch three wins in the Buffalo Invitational to claim the Medium Draw Doubles title. The duo earned its first 6-3 victory over Syracuse, followed by a win of 6-4 over Siena to reach the finals. In a Battle of I-75, Comella and Bettinelli faced Huck / O'Brien of Toledo, and downed the Rockets 7-6 (4) to take home the title over the Mid-American Conference foes.
The title is Comella's fourth overall of the fall season thus far, and second with partner Marta Bettinelli.
A native of Ciutadella de Menorca, Spain, Comella also picked up a pair of victories in singles competition, but ultimately fell by scores of 6-3, 6-4 in the singles HOT Draw title match to Chantal Martinez-Blanco (Buffalo).
After opening with wins in their respective draws, Ayumi Sasaki, Marharita-Sophia Tavpash and Vanesa Pardo all faced difficult opponents who went on to claim the titles of each draw.
Polina Radeva, Marta Bettinelli and Sidney Reineke all rebounded after first match loses to claim victories in the consolation rounds of their respective brackets. Radeva was able to come back with a dramatic 8-6 victory over Natalie Weaver (Siena), while Bettinelli's marathon of a match against Nanea Perkins (Siena) resulted in a 9-8 (4) win. Also in consolation play, Reineke earned a win when she downed Ann Philips (Siena) by a score of 8-6.

"We played hard and were able to make improvements on every court of singles and doubles throughout the tournament. We are looking forward to wrapping up the fall season with Regionals!"

Up Next

The Falcons will participate in the ITA Regionals to round out its fall campaign beginning next weekend, from Oct. 12-17. The Falcons who qualify will compete at the Michigan-hosted regional in Ann Arbor, Mich.
