October 13, 2017 | Men's Golf
DULUTH, GA. – Bowling Green State University Men's Golf will compete in the Autotrader Collegiate Classic hosted by Georgia State University Monday and Tuesday at Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth, Ga. This is the seventh year for the event in Duluth and the first year for the Falcons competing in the Autotrader Classic. BG will compete for the title along with 15 non-conference teams including Georgia State, Augusta, Boston College, Chattanooga, Davidson, Francis Marion, Georgia Southern, Kansas, Lipscomb, Mississippi State, UNC Bressboro, Notre Dame, Richmond, Wintrop and Yale. The Falcons are the only team from the Mid-American Conference competing.
LIVE STATS
Coach Kevin Farrell and the Falcons are fresh off their win at the Mountaineer Intercollegiate Invitational hosted by West Virginia University last Monday and Tuesday (October 9-10). BG took first place out of 16 teams carding an 864, E (290, 287, 287) on the weekend. BG's Max Rispler led the Falcons, ending the weekend in seventh carding a 214, -2 (72, 72, 70). Concluding the Mountaineer Intercollegiate in West Virginia, BG walked away with its first victory since MAC Match Play in February, 2013.
"We are excited to ride the momentum from our win this past week," Farrell said. "We look forward to playing an old style country club similar to the kind of course we practice on. In the past, at this course, you need to make a lot of birdies and we are killing that right now as a team."
The lineup at the Autotrader Classic will consist of the same five athletes who contributed to BG's victory at the Mountaineer this past Monday and Tuesday. The five Falcons competing will be Pablo Heredia Iglesias, Mitchell Kontak, Max Rispler, Rodrique Vie and Trey Walker. With Rispler placing seventh and Heredia Iglesias tied for eighth at the Mountaineer, the Falcons look to have more outstanding performances at the Autotrader. Along with Rispler and Heredia Iglesias, BG freshman Rodrigue Vie carded a 218, +2 (75, 69, 74) along with a career-high 13 birdies on the weekend.
BG Men's Golf will continue its season at MTSU-Old Fort Intercollegiate (Oct. 30) and will conclude its 2017 fall season at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic (Nov 3-5).
