With seven Falcons earning a spot in the Midwest Qualifying Draw, it is the most players Bowling Green has brought to the tournament since beginning competition at the event in 2009. Of the five seasons in which a Falcon has qualified, head coach Stephanie Dalmacio has led a total of 13 of the 29 Bowling Green players to compete since 2009, including six players from her first season as head coach in 2016 in addition to this year's seven participants.
While junior Paula Comella advances to the Main Singles Draw on Saturday, Oct. 14 for the second consecutive season, the remaining Falcons begin competition Thursday, Oct. 12, in freshmen Sidney Reineke, Marta Bettinelli, and Vanesa Pardo, sophomores Ayumi Sasaki and Marharita-Sophia Tavpash, as well as junior Polina Radeva.
In addition to seven individuals qualifying, the Bowling Green squad will have three doubles teams who will begin competition on Friday, Oct. 13. Brackets for doubles action will be added once they become available.
It will be both Comella and Radeva's third consecutive year partaking in the event, while it is the second year for Tavpash and Sasaki. After being the lone Falcon to qualify for the Singles Main Draw in both 2016 and 2017, Comella became the first Falcon to do so since Nikki Chiricosta in 2011.
