Men's Golf Tees Off Fall Campaign At The Marshall Invitational

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – For the fifth straight year, the Bowling Green State University men's golf team will tee-off the fall season at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational hosted by Marshall University. This year's tournament will be held on Sept. 12-13 at the Berry Hills Country Club in Huntington, W. Va.
Held at the par 70, 6,499 yards Berry Hills Country Club, the 47th annual Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational will be a 54-hole tournament with two rounds set for Monday, Sept. 12, and a final round of 18 holes scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 13. Each day will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
This year's tournament field includes 16 teams in Bowling Green, Austin Peay, Belmont, Cleveland State, Davidson, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, George Washington, Longwood, Marshall, Northern Kentucky, Ohio, Wichita State, Wright State, Virginia Tech and Youngstown State.
Bowling Green men's golf head coach Kevin Farrell will send out a Falcon lineup of Jose Narro, Brett Rinker, Pablo Heredia Inglesias, Nick Hofland and Max Rispler, while junior Cameron Michalak will compete as an individual for the two-day event.
Narro, a senior, native of Tampico, Mexico posted a stroke average of 73.75 over 32 rounds of play throughout the 2015-16 season, which ranked 11th in the MAC overall, and 10th overall best single-season stroke average by a Falcon in BGSU men's golf history. Narro set the BGSU men's golf record with a 54-hole score of 202, -11 under par, at last year's Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational, in which he earned a third place finish, kicking of a season of five top-25 place finishes. Two seasons ago, Narro won the individual championship at the Marshall event with a score of 206, -7 under par in 2014.
Fellow senior Rinker, comes off of the 2015-16 campaign as a 2016 All-MAC Second Team member, after posting a team-best and eighth ranked MAC stroke average of 73.28 over 32 rounds of play on the year. Rinker's stroke average also ranks fifth all-time in BGSU history for the top single-season scoring average, with which he was able to perform as the top-Falcon competitor in five tournaments. Last year at the Marshall Invitational, Rinker carded a low round 69 over the third round of play for a 23rd-place finish, leading to a 54-hole score of 213, even par, with rounds of 72, 72 and 69.
In his debut season with the Falcons, sophomore Heredia Inglesias recorded a season stroke average of 74.22 over 32 rounds of play on the season, which ranked 15th overall in the MAC. The native of Seville, Spain played in all 11 events for the Falcons as a true freshman, which included a a round of 71 in the second round of last year's Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational. The mark helped Heredia Inglesias place in a tie for 49th-place in the two-day Marshall Invitational with a final score of 217, +4 over par.
Freshman Hofland will compete for the Falcons for the first time in his collegiate career at this weekend's Marshall Invitational. En route to posting three top-20 finishes on the Canadian Junior Boys Tour in 2015, the Ancaster, Ontario native finished in a tie for 13th in the 2015 Ontario Junior Boys Championship and in a tie for 19th at the 2015 American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Randy Wise Junior Open, while also finishing in a tie for 20th-place overall at the 2015 Canadian Junior Boys Championship. In high school competition, Hofland was an Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations Medalist with a seventh-place finish at the 2015 Province Championships with a total 36-hole score of 147, +3, with which he led his team to a Conference of Independent Schools of Ontario Athletic Association (CISAA) Conference Championship in 2014.
At the end of the 2015-16 season, redshirt sophomore Rispler turned in a stroke average of 77.73 over 11 rounds of play across four tournaments on the year. The Grand Rapids, Mich. native carded a low round 72 in the first round of last season's Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational, ultimately earning a total score of 224, +11, over 54-holes of play at the Invitational.
Competing individually for the Falcons will be junior Michalak. The native of Grove City, Ohio posted a stroke average of 76.04 over 26 rounds of play in nine events on the 2015-16 season. It was at the Marshall Invitational last year that Michalak carded a career-low round 65 in the final round of play, which is tied for the second lowest 18-hole score by a Falcon in BGSU men's golf history. After ultimately placing in a tie for 36th-place overall at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational with a three-round combined score of 215, +2, with rounds of 76, 74 and 65, Michalak went on to take 27th-place overall at the 2016 MAC Championships with a score of 304, +20.
Overall, this will be the seventh straight season in which the Falcons have competed at the Marshall Invitational, having posted a team-best second-place finish last season. Bowling Green had four players shoot in the 60s in the third round, en route to a final team round of 269, -15 under par, The score placed the Falcons just one stroke off the lead and in second-place overall with a 54-hole team score of 835, -17 under par. The third round score was the lowest 18-hole team round in BGSU men's golf history eclipsing the mark of 274 set at the APSU Intercollegiate in 2010-11.
After this weekend's competition, the Bowling Green men's golf team will be right back in action at it participates in the Inverness Intercollegiate, hosted by Mid-American Conference foe Toledo next week, from Sept. 19 to Sept. 20.
