BGSU Tennis Wins Two Titles As Day One Concludes At Raider Invitational

Dayton, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis team completed day one at the Wright State Raider Invitational with two doubles flight champions and all members of the traveling team winning the first round of their respected singles flights.
In doubles, sophomore Paula Comella and freshman Marharita-Sophia Tavpash teamed up in flight one. Comella and Tavpash downed UNOH's Schneider and Reshetnikova in the first round, 7-6(5). The duo then swept through their match with Kawamoto and Marchant of Dayton, 6-0. Comella and Tavpash claimed the flight championship title by defeating Wright State's Culbertson and Turner, 6-1.
"The Falcons came out swinging today, dominating in both singles and doubles," Head Coach Stephanie Dalmacio said. "Throughout a long 14 hour day, we kept the energy high, cheering each other on to all seven players advancing to the semifinals. Paula and Rita took the title for the number 1 draw. I couldn't be happier, it was a good day to be a Falcon!"
Also earning a flight championship title was freshman Anna Kholodnaya who was paired with Brigitte Swartwood of IUPUI. The pair took down Madrigal and Madrigal of Wright State, 6-1 to earn a spot in the flight three final. Kholodnaya and Swartwood used a 6-2 match to clinch the championship title, beating Wright State's Haller and Jones.
The Orange and Brown posted seven wins in singles action. In flight one, Comella defeated Amanda Schneider of UNOH in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Kholodnaya tallied a 6-0, 6-0 win against Dayton's Alex Townsend.
Tavpash recorded a 6-1, 6-4 victory versus Jade Kawamoto of Dayton in flight two.
In flight three, Sasaki kept the momentum in BG's favor, posting a 6-3, 7-5 win over IUPUI's Samantha Meyer.
Freshman Megan Horn bested Xiomara Aguilar of UNOH in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 to pick up her first collegiate singles win for Bowling Green.
The Falcons junior Emily Witt was up a set 6-4 against IUPUI's Swartwood in flight five, Witt dropped the second set, 7-5. She defeated Swartwood, 10-5 in the tiebreaker to capture the match.
The Falcons will begin play tomorrow at 7:45 a.m. at the South Regency Tennis Center and Springboro High School.
