Falcons Host Annual Tom Stubbs Relays
September 29, 2016 | Women's Swimming & Diving
Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving team will be hosting the annual Tom Stubbs Relays this upcoming Friday, Sept. 30 at 4 P.M. to kick off the 2016-17 regular season. The Falcons welcome Youngstown State and Oakland, as well as Mid-American Conference members Toledo, and reigning MAC Champions, the Akron Zips.
The meet features 10 relay events, including the 200 and 400 medley relay, 3x100 butterfly, 3x100 backstroke, 3x100 breaststroke, 3x500 freestyle, 4x100 individual medley and the 200, 400 and 800 freestyle relays.
At last season's Tom Stubbs Relays, the Falcons had three second place finishes, six third place finishes, and one fourth place finish. Cooper Pool saw a total of three meet records go down last year, as the University of Akron stopped the clock at 1:44.41 on the 200 medley relay, which is the first event at the Mid-American Conference Championships every year. Two more meet records were broken by the University of Oakland. The Golden Grizzlies took home both the 3x100 breaststroke and the 400 freestyle relay, swimming a 3:11.90 and 3:30.49 respectively. Both of these teams are coming back for this year's meet, and the Falcons couldn't be more ready for the task.

It is a busy weekend for the swim/dive team, as they will be getting right back in the water the very next day. Saturday morning is when the Falcons welcome former BGSU swimmers and divers for the annual Jean Campbell Alumni meet. The swimming events will consist of a 50 yard race of each stroke, along with fun relays in which former swimmers will get to race the current Falcons. Divers will be sticking to their regular events, the 1-meter and 3-meter, in which former divers will get to show off how they maintained their skills over the years, as they compete with the current divers in the program.
The Falcons will get back in action on Friday, Oct. 7 when they get on the road for the Dennis Stark Relays meet at South Bend, Indiana.
