Complete 2017 Schedule
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team, who completed last season with the team's highest MAC Championships score in 25 years, has announced the 2017 schedule. Head coach Kerrie Turner, in her tenth season at the helm, will guide the Falcons through 12 regular season meets and as hosts of the 2017 MAC Championships.
Â
"The 2017 schedule is filled with exciting competition. I am looking forward to starting the year with a quad meet at Penn State and then going to Utah State the following week," said Turner. "The challenging competition is great motivation as we prepare this fall."
Â
BGSU will host five dual meets at Anderson Arena and face a slate of six meets against Mid-American Conference foes. They also have two quad meets and a tri-meet within the first month of the season.
Â
The cornerstone event of the 2017 schedule is the MAC Championships, which Bowling Green will host for the first time since 2010. The meet will take place on Saturday, March 18 at the Stroh Center. It will mark the second time the team will compete in that venue, following last season's meet against the University of Denver.
Â
"Hosting the MAC Championships at the Stroh Center is perhaps the most exciting part of our schedule. We will be working hard to build excitement on campus and within the community to bring great attendance to this event," said Turner. "Our team will be focused on peaking at this meet in front of our home crowd and working towards our goal of qualifying for the NCAA post-season for the second year in a row."
Â
The season will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, as Bowling Green travels to Penn State to face the Nittany Lions. They will be joined at the meet by Central Michigan and Temple. Six days later, the Falcons return to action in Logan, Utah in a tri-meet against Utah State and North Carolina State. BGSU faced the Wolfpack in 2016 and fell by just one-tenth of a point (194.9-194.8).
Â
The Falcons' first home meet of 2017 begins at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21 against Illinois State. Bowling Green defeated the Cardinals on the road last season (194.175-192.225). BGSU then returns to the road on Jan. 28 with a trip to Fort Worth, Texas for the Metroplex Invitational. That quad meet will include George Washington, Central Michigan and San Jose State.
Â
BGSU finally begins their schedule of MAC duals on Friday, Feb. 3 at Northern Illinois. Last season, the Falcons set a school record with a 196.500 score against the Huskies on Senior Night, as the team scored 49.000-plus in all four events for the first time in 11 years.
Â
"The MAC is coming off a very successful year with four teams qualifying for the post-season," said Turner. "I expect great dual meets during our conference competitions that will lead us to a thrilling MAC championship."
Â
Turner leads Bowling Green into their first home MAC meet two days later when the Falcons host Western Michigan. That begins a stretch of three straight home events for BGSU. They host New Hampshire at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11 and Ball State at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18.
Â
The Falcons' final home regular season meet is against Kent State on Friday, March 3. They also have duals against Michigan State, Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan. BGSU will tangle with the Chippewas three times in 2017.
Â
Should BGSU qualify for the post-season, the 2017 NCAA Regionals are scheduled for Sunday, April 2. The national meet, held in St. Louis, Mo., will be held from April 18-19.
