UP NEXT IN FALCON SOCCER
The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team, having won five of the season's first six matches, concludes a three-game stretch against Southwest Ohio-based programs. Head coach Eric Nichols and the Falcons travel to the Queen City to face the University of Cincinnati on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 17). Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. at Gettler Stadium on the UC campus.
Then, BGSU will return home to face the University of Dayton on Tuesday night (Sept. 20). That matchup will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Cochrane Stadium.

FALCONS ARE 5-1 AGAIN
• BGSU is off to a 5-1-0 start to the season. This marks the third-straight year that the Falcons have started 5-1.
• The 2014 team finished with a 14-6-1 record, posting the program's most wins in nearly two decades (since 1997), and advanced to the MAC Tournament's championship match for the first time since 2003.
• Last year's team finished 9-9-1, marking only the second time since 2000 that BGSU had won as many as nine games in a season.
A FEW THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE FALCONS
• The Falcons, as mentioned, are 5-1-0 on the season. BG opened the year with three multiple-goal wins at Cochrane Stadium, downing IUPUI, Appalachian State and Marshall. The Falcons scored 10 goals and conceded just one in those matches..
• BG took to the road for the first time in 2016 last week (Sept. 7), and freshman Chris Brennan's goal with just four seconds left in the second overtime gave the Brown and Orange a thrilling 1-0 victory at Cleveland State.
• But, on Saturday (Sept. 10), Western Illinois rallied back after a goal by senior Joe Sullivan, downing the visiting Falcons by a 2-1 final. The Brown and Orange bounced back on Tuesday (Sept. 13), topping Wright State, 2-0, in this year's battle for the I-75 Cup at Cochrane Stadium. Seniors Jacob Roth and Pat Flynn scored BG's goals in that win.
• The Falcons are 4-0-0 at home this season, and BGSU has outscored opponents by a 12-1 count at Cochrane Stadium in those four matches.
• Since the start of the 2014 season, BGSU has a record of 16-4-1 at Cochrane. The Falcons went 6-2-0 last year and 6-2-1 in 2014. All four home losses in that time have come by identical 1-0 scores. The two '14 setbacks both came against nationally-ranked opponents. Last year's home losses came on a goal in overtime and a goal with under two minutes left in regulation.
• The Falcons have outscored the opponents, 56-14, at Cochrane Stadium, dating to the final home game of the 2013 season. BG has scored at least two goals in 16 of the 22 matches in that time, with three or more goals in 10 of those games.
• In all games, the Falcons are 4-0-0 when scoring two or more goals this season. BGSU is 12-0-1 in such matches since the start of the 2015 season, and the Falcons are now 42-4-5 when scoring at least two goals in the Eric Nichols Era.
• BGSU is ranked ninth in the Great Lakes Region in the latest NSCAA ratings. The Falcons were sixth in the region in each of the previous two weeks.
• Eight different players have scored at least one goal for the Falcons this season to date. Brennan, Flynn and Sullivan have three goals apiece to share the team lead.
• Flynn has a team-best nine points, while Sullivan has seven, Brennan and Roth six each and freshman Robert Miller III five. Roth leads the Falcons with four assists on the year.
• Freshman Anthony Mwembia has played all 559-plus minutes in goal this season to date. He has four shutouts in BG's six matches, and has a goals-against average of just 0.48.
• Sophomore Bismark Agyeman picked up his first assist of the season on Tuesday night vs. WSU. Agyeman tied for the team lead with five assists a year ago.
• Sophomore Dominic Grida also was credited with an assist against the Raiders. It was the first point of his collegiate career.
• Freshman Tom Wrobel – who did not play in any of the Falcons' first five matches of the year – made his first career start and played all 90 minutes of the win over WSU. Wrobel and the BG back line, as mentioned, kept a clean sheet on Tuesday.
• The Falcons' win over Wright State Tuesday night was BG's fifth consecutive victory over the Raiders. BGSU is now 6-1-0 vs. WSU since Nichols and his counterpart, Wright State coach Bryan Davis, came up with the idea for the I-75 Cup prior to the 2010 season. The I-75 Cup is a traveling trophy which goes to the winner of the BGSU-WSU match each year.
SENIORS ARE LEAVING THEIR MARK
• All four of the Falcons' seniors have made their mark on the program. BGSU has a record of 33-22-8 since Max Auden, Jacob Roth and Joe Sullivan made their respective playing debuts in 2013, and the Falcons are 27-15-2 since Pat Flynn joined that group prior to the 2014 campaign.
• That quartet is beginning to etch their names in the BGSU record book as well. Flynn, after scoring against Wright State on Tuesday, now has career totals of 26 goals and 63 points. He is now tied with Chris Dore (1996-99) for eighth place on the BGSU career goals list, and is just one goal behind seventh-place Dave Kindl (1993-96). Flynn is only four goals shy of fifth place on that list.
• With 63 points, Flynn is 10th on that BGSU career chart. He is three points behind Kindl and five points in back of eighth-place Dennis Wesley (1983-84).
• Sullivan enters the Cincinnati match with a career total of 46 points, on 16 goals and 14 assists. Roth has 38 points on 11 goals and 16 assists. Roth, the Falcons' active career leader in assists, is just six shy of 10th place on that BG career list.
• Auden, who has missed the first six matches of the year due to an injury suffered in the spring, has 22 career points on seven goals and eight assists. All three of his career game-winning goals have come against MAC teams, with two in overtime.
• Flynn, Roth and Sullivan are the only Falcons who have registered at least one point in four of the six matches this season to date.
• Flynn and Sullivan each have eight career game-winning goals, good for a tie for fourth place on that BGSU list (NOTE: GWG information since 1987).
• The complete career lists for goals, assists, points and GWG are on page 7 of the PDF version of these notes.
FALCONS AMONG THE LEADERS
• The Falcons are well represented in the latest NCAA statistics. As a team, BGSU leads the nation in total assists, and the Falcons are second in assists per game.
• BGSU is fourth in the country in both total points and points per game, and the Falcons are seventh in shutout percentage and saves percentage, eighth in shots on goal per game and ninth in total goals. In fact, BGSU is ranked among the nation's top-20 teams in 12 different statistical categories.
• Individually, senior Jacob Roth is ninth in the country in total assists and 18th in assists per game. Freshman Anthony Mwembia is 10th in the nation in saves percentage, 18th in total saves and 19th in goals-against average. Senior Pat Flynn is 27th nationally in total points.
FLYNN AMONG THE ACTIVE CAREER LEADERS AS WELL
Senior Pat Flynn is ranked among the NCAA's active career leaders in a pair of categories. Flynn is third among active players in points per game, with 1.53, and he is tied for fourth in goals per game, with 0.63.
SCOUTING CINCINNATI
Cincinnati is 2-3-0 on the season, and the Bearcats snapped a three-match losing streak with a 2-0 victory over Cleveland State Wednesday night (Sept. 14). UC downed Fort Wayne to open the season before falling to Wright State, Saint Francis (Pa.) and Xavier. Elliott Williams has scored in each of the last two games, and is the lone Bearcat with two goals. Adam Wilson has team-leading totals of three assists and five points, while Pedro Diaz has played all five games in net and has 24 saves and a goals-against average of 1.35. Last season, the 'Cats went 7-9-3 overall and 1-4-3 in the American Athletic Conference. Head coach Hylton Dayes welcomed back 16 letterwinners, including six starters, from that club.
A LOOK AT DAYTON
Dayton has a record of 2-4-0 on the year, heading into a home match vs. Fort Wayne on Saturday. The Flyers started 0-2, posted wins over Saint Francis (Pa.) and Belmont, then fell to UNCW and Marist in Wilmington, N.C., last weekend. Nick Hagenkord has two goals to lead the team in that category, while Rok Taneski has UD-best totals of three assists and five points. Justin Saliba has been in goal for five of the first six matches, and has 19 saves and a 1.56 GAA. Last year, head coach Dennis Currier's team went 13-5-5 overall, 5-1-2 in the Atlantic 10 and advanced to the NCAA Championships. Currier welcomed back 14 letterwinners, including seven starters, from that 2015 team.
THE SERIES
BGSU leads Cincinnati, 6-3-1, in the all-time series between the teams, but the Bearcats have a four-match unbeaten streak vs. the Falcons. The teams have not met in the regular season since 2007. BGSU won the first six series matchups, from 1972 to 2001, and the teams battled to a draw in 2003. But, UC posted shutout wins over BG in 2004, '05 and '07. BG is 4-1-1 at home and 2-2-0 on the road vs. the 'Cats.
The Falcons lead Dayton, 16-10-0, in that series, but the Flyers dealt BG one of the most lopsided defeats in school history last year. UD posted a 6-0 win at Baujan Field last Sept. 23. Dayton has won three consecutive meetings with the Falcons, although BG and UD have played only twice since the 2000 season. BGSU is 11-2-0 at home and 5-8-0 on the road vs. the Flyers, who have not played at Cochrane Stadium since  1999.
AUDEN, ROTH AND SULLIVAN NAMED TEAM CAPTAINS
Seniors Max Auden, Jacob Roth and Joe Sullivan are the tri-captains for the 2016 Falcons. Auden, a fifth-year senior, is serving as a team captain for the second consecutive season.
UP NEXT FOR THE FALCONS
Following the Dayton match, the Falcons will play back-to-back contests vs. Big Ten Conference foes to end the month of September. BGSU will host Ohio State on Saturday night, Sept. 24, before heading to East Lansing for a matchup with Michigan State on Wednesday, Sept. 28. That MSU match is the first of three-straight road games for the Brown and Orange.
