Falcons Release 2016-17 Non-Conference Schedule

Bowling Green, Ohio – Second-year BGSU men's basketball head coach Michael Huger is excited to announce the Falcons' 2016-17 non-conference slate, which will include eight home games highlighted by the Bill Frack Tournament in late November.
"I am excited to announce our non-conference schedule for the 2016-17 season, headlined by the Bill Frack Tournament on Nov. 19-21 hosted at the Stroh Center. Our non-conference slate includes five teams who finished in the top three in their respective leagues, two NCAA tournament teams in Cincinnati and Green Bay and four teams who won 20 or more games last year in 2015-16," stated head coach Michael Huger. "This will be a competitive schedule that will prepare our young team well for conference play."
Following a home exhibition contest versus Capital University on Friday, Nov. 4, the Falcons will open up the 2016-17 regular season on the road at Oakland on Friday, Nov. 11, in Rochester, Michigan. The season opener will feature two head coaches in Michael Huger (BGSU) and Greg Kampe (OU) who both are graduates of BGSU. Huger played for the Falcons from 1989-93 and graduated from BGSU in 1994. Kampe attended BGSU from 1974-78 and lettered for the Falcons for three years from 1975-78.
The Falcons will then head west to take on South Dakota on Sunday, Nov. 13, in Vermillion, South Dakota, before returning home to host the Bill Frack Tournament on Nov. 19-21 at the Stroh Center.
The Bill Frack Tournament will be a round robin tournament over three days of play and comprised up of four teams in UMKC, Green Bay, Murray State and host BGSU. The Orange and Brown will host UMKC on Saturday, Nov. 19, Green Bay on Sunday, Nov. 20 and conclude the multi-team event on Monday, Nov. 21 versus Murray State.
"Our schedule is loaded with tough minded and physical teams such as Morgan State, Alabama A&M, Norfolk State, Detroit and UMKC, all of which will be tough games from start to finish. We are looking forward to hearing Falcon fans cheer us on to victory in a packed Stroh Center," Huger said.
BGSU will remain at home in the Stroh Center to close out the first month of play with home contests versus Morgan State on Saturday, Nov. 26, and Notre Dame College three days later on Tuesday, Nov. 29.
Coach Huger's squad with then hit the road for a tough two-game road swing with bouts at Cincinnati on Sunday, Dec. 4, and at Evansville on Tuesday, Dec. 6, before returning home for its annual match up with the Detroit Titans on Saturday, Dec. 10.
Bowling Green will then head west to California to do battle with San Jose State on Sunday, Dec. 18, before wrapping up the non-conference slate with home games versus Alabama A&M on Thursday, Dec. 22 and Norfolk State on Friday, Dec. 30 in the Stroh Center.
"With eight of our players being either freshmen or sophomores, these games will be a fantastic test to see the progress we have made as we continue working towards building a championship level program. Our squad is excited to go out to California to take on San Jose State, a team that is located only a few miles from Ish Ali's hometown. It will be a great opportunity for Ish to play in front of his family and friends during his senior season," continued Huger.
Huger's team returns a total of nine letter award winners from last season from a team that won two of its last three games of the year which came in the MAC Championship Tournament.
BGSU also added five newcomers in junior college transfer Jeffrey Uju and four freshmen in Dylan Frye, Rodrick Caldwell, Justin Turner and Ethan Good to a squad that returns five of their top six scorers, all five of its top five shooters in terms of field goal percentage and its top two three-point field goal shooters from last year.
The Falcons also return 68.7 percent of its scoring, 72.4 percent of its three-point shooting, 74.3 percent of its rebounding and 63.6 percent of its steals one year ago in 2015-16.
