Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green Athletics' corporate partner GKN Driveline matched a monetary donation for Northwest Ohio Special Olympics for the third year as a presenting sponsor of the Falcon 5 Miler race held on campus by the Women's Track & Field, Women's Cross Country and Men's Cross Country programs on Saturday, May 21.
GKN Driveline, one of the world's leading manufacturer of automotive driveline components, is in their third year as a BGSU athletics corporate partner. As part of the company's steady commitment to give back to the community, GKN Driveline was involved with the Saturday race as many representatives volunteering and participating in 5 miler itself. GKN Driveline was generous to double their donation to the Northwest Ohio Special Olympics from last year's race company and earmarked a $500 donation.
"Falcon Athletics is extremely grateful to our partners at GKN Driveline for their continued support of our Cross Country and Track & Field programs," said BGSU Athletics Senior Associate Athletic Director Kit Hughes. "The 'Falcon 5 Miler' is not just a team event, but rather a community event that helps support healthy lifestyles in our area and raises money for a fantastic organization in the Northwest Ohio Special Olympics. We are thrilled to bring these two organizations together through this continued partnership, and look forward to many more successful collaborations in the future!"
"It's important to us that we give back to the community, and through our BGSU Athletics' sponsorship and donation to Special Olympics, we're now afforded some additional opportunities we can be fully immersed in to extend our charitable initiatives," said GKN Driveline's Plant Director Craig Zimmerly. "It was a pleasure to be a part of what took place on Saturday, and I'm so glad we had the chance to be involved and positively benefit an outstanding cause."
The Falcon 5 Miler took place at May 21st, touring participants through the Bowling Green State University campus. It started in front of the Sebo Athletic Center and Doyt Perry Stadium, with the race finishing on the outdoor track adjacent to the football stadium. All proceeds were designated for BGSU Cross Country/Track & Field and Northwest Ohio Special Olympics.
