Heredia Iglesias Cards an Opening Round 74 at the 2016 British Amateur Championship

Mid Glamorgan, Wales, United Kingdom - BGSU rising sophomore Pablo Heredia Iglesias carded a first round 74, +3, on day one of the 121st British Amateur Championship held at the Royal Porthcawl and Pyle & Kenfig Golf Clubs in Rest Bay, Porthcawl, Mid Glamorgan, Wales from June 13-18.

Heredia Iglesias, who played on the Royal Porthcawl Golf Club on Monday, finished day one of The Amateur Championship in a tie for 125th-place overall with a round of 74, +3.

He finished the day with one birdie, 14 pars, two bogeys and one double bogey.

"I played good, but the course played harder in the afternoon as it rained and there was a lot of wind," stated Heredia Iglesias. "Tomorrow, I'm playing early and on the easier course (Plye & Kenfig Golf Club), so I hope to go low so that I can make the round of 64 on Wednesday. My game is feeling better and better, and I'll be ready to go tomorrow."

The Falcon golfer carded four straight pars out of the gate before bogeying the par 5 hole No. 5 to go to +1 thru five holes of play. He then bounced back with a par on the hole No. 6 and then a birdie on the par 3 hole No. 7 to go back to even par. Heredia Iglesias closed the front nine out with back-to-back pars to finish with a 35, even par.

On the back nine, the Spaniard went par, bogey, par, par, par and par to sit at +1 heading into the final three holes of play. However, he would double bogey the par 4 hole No. 16 to fall to +3 with holes 17 and 18 to go. Heredia Iglesias rebounded to go par and par over the final two holes to wrap up his 18-holes of play at 74, +3.

Antoine Rozner of France leads the tournament field after 18 holes of play with a first round score of 64, -7 under par.

Heredia Iglesias will tee-off tomorrow, June 14, in the morning session at 8:06 a.m. local time (3:06 a.m. EST) at the Plye & Kenfig Golf Club.
