Narro Records a Win at 2016 U.S. Open Local Qualifier

Columbus, Ohio – BGSU golfer Jose Narro carded a round of 67, -5 under par, on Monday to take first-place overall at the 2016 U.S. Open Local Qualifier held at the Rattlesnake Ridge Golf Club in Sunbury, Ohio.

"Today I played really well," commented Narro. "I stuck to the game plan and executed it correctly. This is a good way to start the summer, especially after not playing very good at the MAC Championships a few weeks back."

At the par 72, 6,981-yards course, Narro totaled seven birdies, including five on the back nine, to shoot a low score of 67, -5 under par, for the day and edge Elliot Grayson (68) of Akron for the win.

In addition to his seven birdies, the rising senior tallied nine pars on the day. He posted a par 5 scoring average of -4 under par, a par 3 average of -1 under par, and a par 4 scoring average of Even par for the event.

Narro bounced back from a bogey on the opening hole No. 1 to turn in a birdie on the par 4 No. 3 to get back to even thru three holes. After bogeying hole No. 4, he then birdied the par 5 hole No. 6 and closed out the round with three straight pars to make the turn at 36, even par.

On the back nine, Narro went birdie, par, birdie, par, birdie, par, birdie, par, and birdie to shoot a 31, -5 under par, and close out the round with a 67.

Up next for Narro will be the U.S. Open Sectional Qualifier on June 6. There will be a total of 12 sectional qualifying sites – one international site in Japan and England, respectively – and 10 in the U.S.

Narro could end up in one of three places for his U.S. Open Sectional Qualifier – the Springfield Country Club in Springfield, Ohio, the Wedgewood Golf & Country Club/Kinsale Golf & Fitness Club in Powell, Ohio, or at the Lakeside Country Club in Houston, Texas.
