Bowling Green, Ohio – Having carded a round of 67, -5 under par, to win the 2016 U.S. Open local qualifier at the Rattlesnake Ridge Golf Club in Sunbury, Ohio back on May 9, BGSU rising senior Jose Narro will take the next step in his attempt to make the tournament field for the 2016 U.S. Open by competing at the U.S. Open sectional qualifier on June 6 in Houston, Texas.
Narro, who played high school golf at St. Michaels's Catholic Academy in Texas, will play the one-day qualifying event at the Lakeside Country Club in Houston.
"I've been preparing hard for this qualifier. I'm going to have to attack like every other one-day qualifiers, but also play smart," remarked Narro. "Also, I have Cameron (Michalak) on the bag again for me, which worked very well during the local qualifier."
The Lakeside Country Club, a traditional tree-lined course, will host sectional qualifying for the third time in the last 11 years this June, as Texas alternates sectional qualifying between Houston and Dallas every year.
The U.S. Open sectional qualifying is already underway with two international sites in Japan and England hosting events on May 23 and May 30. A total of twelve 36-hole sectional qualifiers are being contested with all 10 in the U.S. set for June 6.
The process began with 9,877 players attempting to qualify for the Oakmont Country Club event this summer.
The U.S. Open will be held June 16-19 in Oakmont, Pa.
