Narro Shoots an Opening Round 67 at the 58th Mexican Open

Aguascalientes, Mexico – Bowling Green State University rising senior Jose Narro, a native of Tampico, Mexico, shot a first round 67, -4 under par, on day one of the 58th annual Mexican Open (58 Abierto Mexicano) on Thursday, May 19, at the par 71 Club Campestre de Aguascalientes in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
The Falcon golfer concluded day one in a tie for 12th-place overall with his round of 67, -4 under par, and is the lone amateur golfer in the top-12 after the first 18 holes of play.
Teeing off in the last group of the day off of hole No. 1 on Thursday, Narro finished his first round of play with six birdies and 11 pars overall.
He started off with back-to-back birdies on holes No. 1 and No. 2 to go -2 under right out of the gate. After two pars and a double bogey on the par 5, hole No. 5, put him back at even through five holes, Narro closed out the front nine with four straight pars to shoot a 35, even par, heading into the turn.
His back nine started just like on the front side, as he registered two consecutive birdies to go back to -2 under through 11 holes of play. Following three more pars, Narro carded a birdie on both hole No. 15 and No. 16 to go to -4 under par with two holes left in his opening round.
Narro wrapped up his strong round with back-to-back pars on holes 17 and 18, to finish out the back nine with a score of 32, -4 under par, and give him a round of 67, -4 under par, for the day.
The three-year Falcon is tied with nine other golfers at 12th-place overall and is just four strokes behind the round one leader who finished the day with a score of 63, -8 under par.
Narro is scheduled to tee-off round two of the four-day event tomorrow, Friday, May 20, off of hole No. 10 at 9:35 a.m. local time (10:35 a.m. ET).
As part of the first half of the 2016 PGA Tour Latinoamérica schedule, the Mexican Open is the National Open Championship for the Mexican Federation of Golf.
