BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team will wrap up the 2016 season this week at Buffalo. The Falcons and Bulls will play a three-game series over May 19-21 at UB's Amherst Audobon Field. Thursday's (May 19) game will start at 3 p.m., while the Saturday (May 20) and Sunday (May 21) games will start at 1 p.m.
"We certainly aren't in the situation that we want to be in," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "Obviously, we were hoping that this weekend was going to provide us with a chance to get into the MAC Tournament, but we haven't been playing good baseball down the stretch. However, we still have a chance to end the season on a positive note, so we will be fighting for pride, and fighting to win this series."
The Falcons and Bulls have been eliminated from MAC Tournament contention, but both schools could still finish as good as ninth place in the league. Bowling Green enters plays this weekend with a 16-35 record.
A pair of Falcons are chasing single-season program records. With two more appearances, Devin Daugherty will break the school record for most appearances in a single season. Nick Bruns appeared in 29 games during Bowling Green's magical 2013 season. Tony Landi is tied for the school record for saves in a single season with eight, and can claim the record outright with one more save.
The Orange and Brown will also look to snap an 11-game losing streak this weekend, and end the season on a high note with its fourth MAC series victory. The Falcons have claimed weekend wins this season over Toledo, Ohio and Ball State.
Buffalo currently owns a 19-30 record. The Falcons and Bulls have identical 6-15 records in Mid-American Conference play. The Bulls have won five of their last six ballgames, but haven't played a conference game since May 8. Buffalo has won just a single MAC weekend this season, as they took two games from Toledo over March 25-27.
The Bulls are hitting .251 as a team, and own a 4.74 team ERA. On the last weekend of the regular season in 2015, Matt Smith hit a walk-off home run to send the Falcons to the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
Probable Starters For The Weekend
